KC Federal Courthouse is blocked off
Eye witness

For the last hour the Federal courthouse in Kansas City Missouri has had traffic blocked off for a 1 block perimeter by local police. About 30 minutes ago, there were several vehicles parked out front, (ambulance, fire trucks and an unmarked white truck).
Just now we observed a member of the bomb squad, (protective jacket and helmet) place a device next to the supposed suspicious package and then retreat back to the unmarked white truck. The official vehicles have pulled back to the one block perimeter.
Does anyone else in the KC area have any more information?

This is a first hand account. I work in a building next to the federal courthouse and am observing this out the windows.

Do you have access to a TV?
To: dd5339
I won't believe it till I hear it from reuters.

Keep this bumped.
Could be no more than a bomb scare but could be serious.
(I used to work at 10th and Grand so I know the area you're talking about.)

Move back from those windows if it is in fact a threatening situation. It is not advised to stand very close if things are in fact 'going down'.

The KC Star website says it was just a fire extinguisher left somewhere it should not have been.

Move back from those windows if it is in fact a threatening situation.Actually, I try to have an entire building or two or three between me and "suspicious packages."

Get as far away as you can. Don't take any chances. If it's a false alarm, at least you took actions to be safe.

Thanks for the comforting words Poohbah! I've got about 10' between me and the window. Looks to be a false alarm so far. I am out of here at 12:00 so I'm getting out of the area anyway.

Looks like a false alarm, all of the officials are packing up and leaving. Either that or they're breaking for lunch!

Might just be a drill. I work next to the ATF shop at
17th & Troost, and they had the bomb truck outside this
morning.
But as I type this I hear on the radio the story about
a fire extinguisher out of place.
Disinformation?

From what I heard from a worker at the courthouse someone found a fire extingusher in a dumpster. They thought it was out of place and odd and reported it to a manager. Management ran with it from there.
It did make for a lively morning though at the office.

Please, on headlines like this, identify the locale so those of us not local will understand. To me "KC Courthouse" means "King County Courthouse." This is, of course, the King County that contains two cities famous all around the world.
