U2 overflights were never needed in the first place. They were just a red herring to show Saddam's unwillingness to cooperate.

We need the airspace opened up a bit for the B-52s.

From AP:

WASHINGTON, Mar 11, 2003 (AP WorldStream via COMTEX) -- Iraq forced the suspension of U.S. surveillance flights, threatening one of two planes already in the air, a senior U.S. official said Tuesday.

Multiple flights are permitted under a U.N. Security Council resolution approved last November and the Bush administration is seeking clarification from U.N. inspectors, said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity.

They were just a red herring to show Saddam's unwillingness to cooperate.

And he has delivered yet again. That is one of the requirements in Resolution 1441, I believe.
