UNITED NATIONS. Diplomats from around the globe were to take turns speaking their minds Tuesday as the U.N. Security Council continues to ponder a resolution authorizing war with Iraq.
Open council debate was planned after the United States and Britain were forced to delay a vote on their draft resolution when failed to get enough support, despite a flurry of personal appeals from President Bush on Monday.

The President said last week during his press conference it would be this week. So far, regarding this war, Bush has not backed down on his words.

Believe the President is as fed up with waiting for the UN to act as the rest of us are. Time to put the cards on the table and force the French, Germans, Russians, Chinese, et al to show their hands!

A resolution vote that extends the deadline might as well be delayed until October 1.

...so why is any more time needed? Maybe to give the 101st time to unload their equipment?

If Bush allows this nonsense to go on too much longer, he is going to lose the military window for an optimal attack as well as his own political base. He has said all along -- correctly -- that Resolution 1441 gives him all the UN "authority" he needs (which we don't actually need, but I digress). Any new deadline will only give Saddam further opportunities to play additional games, with the French and other enemies of the US playing along like the useful idiots they have proven to be.

What about Bush's "game over" words to Americans a month ago? Would you say that he was true to those? The game clearly has continued and even intensified.

He hasn't yet. Hand wringing over diplomatic quabbling or journalistic posturing hasn't done any of us any good. Let's hear what this administration lays out and, and not speculation from some beltway bimbo.

I couldn't agree more with you -- the deadline cannot slip anymore!

JR,
Here's a source for Torie's contention that Cameroon supports the resolution.

It looks like the 17th is firm, we are now moving troops to jumping off positions.
That means they are vulnerable until we at least start the air offensive.
