Reports are circulating that President Bush intends to divide a post-Saddam Iraq into three sectors: north, south and central. Two retired U.S. generals would separately administer the north and south while the central sector, including Baghdad, would be overseen by a woman: Barbara Bodine, a former ambassador to Yemen.

Actually, under eeeeeeeeeevil Saddam, women in Iraq are a lot better off than women in Saudi or Kuwait. They are even allowed to drive cars, walk on the streets alone and use makeup.

So, just because she is a woman, you think that she should not be there. That strikes me as extremely sexist.

It depends upon how it's sold to the people of Iraq and how visible she is. If she's going to be making speeches to them on a regular basis then I think it's a mistake.

And your source is? I would simply point to you that they tend to behead their women to punish their men. In addition - I've yet to see one female in any of the pictures of the Iraqi government. Granted - that's Saddam's government but the realities are that such prejudices are pretty rampant in their culture. You know - Bodine might do just fine over there but like the original article said - it will certainly complicate things. Why add the compliction? To appease a bunch of feminazis?
