Atlanta Journal Consitution ^ | March 9, 2003 SGT | Staff Report

Is there anything connected with the Augusta National all male membership issue that could surprise us a week after the Knights of the Klu Klux Klan decided to enter the fray?

How about this?

Golfweek Magazine speculates this week that according to its sources, Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O' Connor will be announced April 9th as Augusta National Golf Club's first female member.

The item appears in 'Fore-Caddy' billed as Revelations and Speculations from the Man Out Front--a kind of golf rumour mill--and even has a green jacket superimposed on O'Connor.

Well done, Hootie! Let Martha twist in the wind for a year and take the rug from under Jesse Jackson and company the day before..

Heh heh. Also, I wonder if this is a hint that she plans to retire real soon. GW and the 'pubs had better prepare for all out war with the dims. The obstruction of Estrada is just a tuneup for the real battles soon to come.

Cool. If they are doing it I am glad that it is someone that the media hates. I was worried that it would be Carly Fiorina, that useless loser.

Estrada could be a tune up for an all out 2 year filibuster, should Rehinquist or O'Connor retire..

The GolfWeek article........

Forecaddie

Augusta speculation supreme
The Masters is getting so close the Forecaddie can practically smell the azaleas, but there may be more in the air than that.

Something big, big, big.

Here goes: The Forecaddie hears, from more than one source, that the Augusta National Golf Club plans to “announce” the addition of its first female member April 9, the day before the start of this year’s Masters “tooniment.”

The Chosen One? Supreme Court justice Sandra Day O’Connor.

OK, we hear you. Outlandish, right? Impossible. The Man Out Front has been scratching his head trying to do the math on this one, too. Why would Augusta National turn its prized tournament into a bigtop circus the day before Round 1 with such Richter Scale news? Since when does the National “announce” its new members? And would a sitting Supreme Court justice even consider such a thing as jumping headlong into such a controversial matter? (Actually, a Harvard law professor tells the Man Out Front there would be nothing stopping her.)

Then again, with or without Justice O’Connor, this year’s Masters already may have reached Ringling Bros. status, with J.J. Harper, the Imperial Wizard of the American White Knights of the Klu Klux Klan -- a sort of one-man chapter -- now announcing plans to show up alongside Martha Burk and Jesse Jackson to demonstrate in town during tournament week.

As sports business consultant David Carter told the New York Daily News, “The event has become radioactive. It’s like going to a Jerry Springer show and a golf tournament breaks out.”

As for Martha, she told students at Bowling Green University last week that if she parachuted onto the first tee during the Masters, CBS still would not show it for fear “the boys (Augusta’s members) might kick ’em out next year.”

Parachutes? The Klan? Yikes. Probably not what Bobby Jones had in mind.

O'Connor doesn't count as a "real" woman since she is a Republican appointee. Remember Estrada is not a Real" Hispanic and Powell and Rice are not "Real" African-Americans since they are Republicans.

I hope she retires from the SCOTUS soon (of course that hinges on whether the GOP will fight for their lives in defending Bush's nominee, as being Hispanic will NOT save him like previously thought).

"Sandra will do I was hoping for ann coulter."

Quite frankly, I don't care it's my own mother -- I'd tell her to stay the h*ll out of Augusta.

If the right to assemble is mere Bill of Rights baloney, perhaps I can b*tch, moan, and sue my way into the Trilateral Commission, NOW, and the NAACP while we're all at it.

Could the Dims get away with a 2 year filibuster?

They would lose the '04 Election in a landslide I would think..

After watching Estrada I would have to think that the smart move is for O'Connor and Rehinquist to stay on another 18 months

Well, I suppose if you're gonna cave, might as well do it in spectacular fashion and totally piss off as many of your enemies as you can.

Go Hootie!!
