Sharpton's South
U.S. News- Washington Whispers ^ | 03/17/03 | Paul Bedard

Posted on 03/08/2003 8:49:31 PM PST by Pokey78

Democratic pollsters are buzzing about the possibility that the Rev. Al Sharpton, generally dismissed as a party gadfly, could actually score big in, of all places, the South. They reason that Big Al will be attractive to blacks, who make up a large chunk of Dixie Dems. Which leads to another topic hot in Democratic circles: If a favorite other than Sharpton doesn't become obvious by late fall, look for a strong effort to draft Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton. The Iowa Democratic Party is already thinking that. We hear it wants Clinton as the featured speaker at an annual fall event--an invite that's irked Sen. John Kerry.

There's not a snowball's chance in hell that Al would get that much.

Black conservative ping

If you want on (or off) of my black conservative ping list, please let me know via FREEPmail. (And no, you don't have to be black to be on the list!)

Extra warning: this is a high-volume ping list.

He may have unexpected help.

If there are no important Republican Primaries, why not spend our primary votes creating chaos in the Democrat Party?

I wonder if the Democrats have considered Larry Flynt. He certainly came through for Bill, and he reflects their core values.

Someone else they might consider is Charlie Manson. His current circumstances could present a problem, though not an insurmountable one, and he reflects not only the Democrats' core values but also their logic.

look for a strong effort to draft Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.

She's running in 2004. Obviously not willing to wait for 2008. Hillary is already running the RAT party by blocking Estrada. This is a test. Just how much power does Hillary really have? More than I care to admit. I hope she *isses off everyone in her party before she is finished. It couldn't happen to a bigger, more arrogant piece of trash.

There's not a snowball's chance in hell that Al would get that much.

Al doesn't need to win any primary. The Dems apportion their delegates by percentage of votes received. The winner needs to get 2170 delegates to win the nomination. With so many running it's going to be difficult for any candidate to get there.

The Beauty for Sharpton is he needs to only win 15% of the Dem vote in any state and stay in the race until the convention. With the south's black population anywhere from 20-30%, Sharpton has got a real shot at getting 15%. Remember 20-30% black population equals a potential 40-60% dem voters. Add some Republican voters who want to play in the primary, too. Cross party primaries are not just for Dems anymore.

If the Dem race stays tight, Al's delegates will allow him to be a player and extort favors and prime time coverage from whoever he gives his delegates to at the convention.

Remember, Al just needs at least 15% and to not drop out to have convention delegates. I think he will get some. D.C. wants to have an early primary. S.C., MS, MO, FL, LA all have fairly early primary dates. They could give Sharpton the momentum in other states such as NY, NJ, MI etc.

Rush is endorsing Sharpton's nomination big-time.

I suggest that we FReepers do all we can to promote that possibility as well.

I don't see any reason to waste my time or effort for the Republicans on primary day....I'm out to help ole Al get big points. I just want to see the CNN analysts explain how Al is so hot across America.

Sharpton is a lying, drug dealing, extortionist, race hustler pig of a humanoid. That being said, he loves to ferociously dish it out to the truly obnoxious evil white liberals who are the "massas" of the democrat plantation.

Sharpton particularly dispises all things Clinton and Kennedy, in Michael Savage type of detailed particulars. Hillary truly wants him dead, for the dirt (truth) he drops on her.

The enemy of my enemy is my friend.
