I have two sisters that were adopted by my parents while they were living in Cambodia. While one of my sisters has completed the immigration process, my youngest sister is still in limbo. A year ago, the INS suspended visas for all adopted children originating from Cambodia in a misguided attempt to stop the trafficking of children. Of course, as most Freepers are aware, the trafficking of children occurs in many other countries. My family and I believe that this arbitrary suspesnion punishes families that want to go through the legal process of adoption. We also think that it does nothing to deter the illegal trafficking of children.
A petition was created by one of aunts with the purpose of getting the INS to lift the suspension. The web site at the below address explains all the details. Any Freeper signatures would be greatly appreciated!

I signed the petition. We have an internationally adopted daughter. During the early stages of our adoption and adjustment period, I belonged to a webgroup for adoptive families from Eastern Europe. I'm sure there is such a list for Asian adoptions -- does your family belong to such a list, and if so, has the petition been circulated among the listmembers? That would be a way to gather more signatures. Just a suggestion :-D
And I'm sure you've thought of this, but just in case, have you contacted your senator? I think at one time our senator had a special person or department for adoption matters.

Thanks for the tip about adoptions. As usual Freepers come through with flying colors. Thanks everyone!
