"If you liked the Patriot Act, you're going to love the sequel," said George Getz, Libertarian Party communications director.

"communications director" - the guy who managed to scrape together enough to pay his phone bill this month?

You know, ironically it's FEDGOV who dropped the ball to begin with and allowed 9/11 to happen.

To hear some of this you might get the idea that our FReedom was somehow to blame for all this.

Oh golly, strela, those silly libertarians -- out defending the basic American principles of freedom and liberty that Republicans quit caring about some time ago. Silly, silly libertarians.

Whoop! What a surprise, another anti-Libertarian thread! Let's see how long this one can go before some busted filament lightbulb for a brain Republican starts making drug references.

Keep bashin' em Republicans as they keep taking votes away from you. Every little bit helps, like South Dakota, 2002!!! HOOOOOOOOO AAAHHH, that should have been 52 (R) Senators instead of 51!

Osama Bin Laden and the terrorists apparently get the victory. For all the good we've gained from this Bush administration, we have also taken sorely wounding hits. This is a classic example.

Sure, put a 'sunset' clause in there. Tell that to mrs. xxxlinton or the next administration that used/will use again the IRS and other agencies to prey upon patriots.

The next round will be *FAR* worse.

I think for the sake of safety many things we enjoyed the total freedom of before will be restricted for our future.

I to wish it was as it was pre-9/11, but it probably will never be in our life time.

If we act like we are in a pre-9/11 world Basher, then we will have homicide bombers or worse.

The ONLY way you stop all that is with vigilance.
That kind of vigilance restricts the previous freedoms we had in more innocent times.
We have restrictions in some areas because there are people that want all of us dead.
That is the reason for all the invasion of freedoms, not because our President wants to restrict us.

The guy in charge of the party's hydroponic marijuana garden.

Add legalization of pot to "Patriot II" and you'd never hear another peep from these guys.

What really concerns me about all this isn't what's going to happen today or tomorrow. Dubya is the best friend Conservatives have had in the White House since Reagan.. We're riding high and if anyone should worry besides the terrorists, it's out homegrown domestic terror wanna-bees like ELF and such.

So we're okay, everything is fine.

I am worried about tomorrow. I just can't help remembering this passage from the bible: "there came a "Pharaoh who knew not Joseph.."

And then they were screwed..

How is this Constitutional? Would you trust Bill Clinton with these powers? You are probably going to have to trust the next Democrat administration with them. Still want to back the bill?

I don't think the government can guarantee our safety.

I do however think they can make life miserable by trying..

There is no Patriot II Act. Ashcroft was questioned without mercy about this so called Patriot II Act last week before the Senate. He said it doesn't exist, and it doesn't, he's not in the legislative branch of government.

* Allow the attorney general to deport any foreigner, even a permanent legal resident, whose presence he deems "inconsistent with national security."

* Create a database of DNA collected from "suspected terrorists" and from non-citizens suspected of ordinary crimes.

These two provisions I agree with whole-heartedly. Non-citizens can go back to their own country and force their government into submission as we had to do back in 1776, and tried to do back in the 1850's through 1860's. The rest of the act, like the first one, is a pile of marxist crap.

Nobody can guarantee anything, but without security attempts, more 9/11 type events will happen than possible with security.

We live in different times now. It's not our fault, but we have to respond appropriately. Going about every day like nothing ever happened while there are groups that want us all dead doesn't make for an easy future in ANY event.
