Then, what I suggest is, get the game for your grand kids, and just be the team leader... tell them where and when to go. It will be a wonderful bonding experience! ;^)

I only have a the PC, though I like to borrow either of my brother's XBOX and play Halo.

There's manual reloading in lots of games, including DoD. DoD is a little bit less realistic than GR, and it's faster-paced (it's urban combat, and it's not a big deal when you die).
If you buy half-life to play DoD, you should also check out Counter-Strike.

Prior to getting a Play Station 2 for my kids at Christmas two ago, the last games I played was Asteroids, space invaders etc... they have indeed come a looooong way, and a sense a jump coming again. I am sold on em. You rent them at your local block buster for $5 a week.
The Play Station player, plays the games, plays your music CDs, and plays DVDs. An excellent investment imho...

GR really cut into some of my quality studying time. I went through it three times on all the levels. It's a good game. My only bitch is that you only get 15 + 8 missions, and that you don't get as much control over character weapons as I would like.

:-) You don't how much this posting made me smile!
I picked this game up for the kids to play on X-Box, got the "X-Box Live" set up and tried it out online against other real people.... my wife now believes the headset is a permanent attachment on me!
As video games go, this one is awesome on X-Box and especially playing with and against other people.
If you happen to play online, my tag is Fallen Legacy.
I'm no veteran and cannot speak to how realistic it is, but I have been a rather serious paintballer, I grew up on a Missouri farm where we hunted for at least some of our food and I think this game ROCKS!

For best effect, a screaming P4 or a speedy Athlon XP, with a good video card. The trees look life like.
And the sounds the machine guns make...
I have an XBOX, which is essentially a P3 with a better design suited for game graphics, and I think the games I play on that look pretty good, but my PC, a P4 with NVIDIA GeForce 4, has a much better environment to play these games, much more control over the controls.
Time to upgrade!

Uh, Battlefield 1942 folks. 64 players. Aircraft carriers, battleships, destroyers, armor, halftracks, jeeps, fighters, bombers, AAA, 50 cal and MG42 machine guns, 5 different classes and HYOOOOOOOGE maps.
You guys were talking about what again?
Oh wait, I forgot the subs. And the landing craft. And shore guns. Did I mention that calling in artillery is cool too?

Yes. The opener in Allied Assault is exactly like the first scene in "Saving Private Ryan."
I've read that Speilberg reviewed that part of the game for realism.

HALO Rocks! The best action game I've ever played.
Beat it a few weeks back on legendary, and am waiting for November :)
To: angkor
Yeah, except there was fire support, tanks and no hokey respawning AI Germans.
The Battlefield 1942 Omaha Beach level is tons better. :-)

Escape from Castle Wolfenstein is a joy also!

Watching your entire squad get cut down by machine gun fire straight off the boat makes the rest of the level somewhat hard.
The problem with Bf1942 is that it is a team game, on public servers you run into a large number of morons who keep beaching the aircraft carries.
The best WWII flight sim out there is Forgotten Battles.
Models all sorts of aircraft in the European theatre to the point of obsession.
Around 100 aircraft, many of which are flyable. P-51 will be ready for the first patch, three P-47 variants are already flyable.
The developer of Forgotten Battles also has a WWII real time strategy game coming out sometime next year using the FB engine.
Oleg Maddox is obsessive about the details, check out the
webpage.
I still find it hilarious to be playing a game made by a Russian :)

I don't play these, but my husband does. He plays GR on the PC. He said GR was okay, but he likes his x-box game Halo much better. I guess it's not available on PS2 though.

We are everyone's favorite aunt and uncle in my family right now, that is because the kids love to come over and play Halo with my husband. He is the biggest kid of them all. :)
