Found a "Guardian Weekly" in the library today and came across this article. Though the Guardian isn't known for their objectivity, and the article is quite one-sided, the issue seems troubling. Aren't the Bedouins quite "nice", and even contribute with manpower to IDF?

I'm a little confused. If the bedouins are wanderers, how is it that they have built mosques?

A couple o' random thoughts ...

Does this sound a bit like the "resettlement" of the Indians out West?

If they Bedouins want a traditional lifestyle, why ought the Israeli government provide modern services to them?

Where can we get more information on this? It sounds like there's probably a lot that wasn't mentioned or even addressed in the story.

Yes, many villages have enlistment rates (they're not drafted) above 90%, which the Guardian would probably attribute to lack of economic opportunity (actually a function of the chosen nomadic lifestyle). How they'd explain away their performance in defense of Israel, I don't know.
