--They want US to do all the heavy lifting-- exactly
They don't want their children to die over there.
Why should we send our son's and daughter's into that rats nest? I say send a Big one over there make it a dust bowl for eternity, aqnd be done with it.. Conserve our most precious assets --our children...

Germany ended by saying disarmament can be achieved by war or continued inspections and that the latter is the course to go.
He actually said by increasing inspections the relevancy of the UN would be bolsterd (not exact words, but along those lines).

I'm against a second resolution too. I want the real disarmament to begin tonight. Tomorrow night at latest.

OK, what's the consensus around here as to WHY Bush wants to go ahead and get that vote from the UN? Did you hear the President last night??
It's to force them to put their card on the table for the world to see

Well, that convinces me... if Carlos the Jackal's buddy Joschka Fischer says Iraq is in compliance, then who am I to dispute such a refined and prestigious fire-bomb-hurling, police beating member of the Baader-Meinhof Gang?

Germany is worried about the human costs of war...what about the human costs of the continued rule of a sadistic tyrant? These same jerks that jumped to a microphone to indict us for blindfolding and tying the hands of Taliban/Al Qaeda prisoners say nothing about the human rights issues in Iraq today. They are shameless liars.

OK, what's the consensus around here as to WHY Bush wants to go ahead and get that vote from the UN? Does he want to prove how useless the UN is? Does he actually think they will turn around at the last minute (like they did for 1441)? Is it all for Tony Blair? Politicians hate having to go on-record. This is a put up or shut proposition.
It's also a "you're either with us or against us" warning: recall that Bush also said we didn't need the UN's permission for this.

What ticks me is that none of these guys address just how viable it is for 250,000 troops to sit in theater for months to exact pressure on Saddam to continue to offer up some minimal semblance of cooperation (which semblance has yet to allow any unattended and recorded interviews). Do these guys really think any further progress will be made if the troops exit?Exactly.. and Blix actually said that it was because of "external pressure" that Saddam was complying.
To: Jennifer in Florida
I think it is for Blair's benefit. But, with the tone of last nights speech, I do think that Bush will go in without the UN blessing and Blair will survive politically. His country will see in the end that these guys were right and that all this stalling is endangering all our lives everyday.

We shouldn't expect anything from these bozos. After the fall of the Soviet Union, these socialists have been scared to death of the U.S.'s power and will do anything to limit it.
Countries like France, Germany and Russia quake at the prospect of being folded into America's "heartland."
But the world has changed and they can't keep up. Their only power is to stall and obstruct.
When the pie is divided, they'll be left with their hands out and empty.

The Syrian translation is rather interesting. It looks like his mouth is moving a mile a minute, but the translation (female voice) spits out an occasional word here and there. Kinda like watching those old Kung-Fu movies I used to watch when I was young.
