I'm afraid we're too culturally fragmented now. In 1944, all GI's knew who had won the World Series. I have no idea who won the World Series last year, and I was a Naval Reservist not too many years ago.

When we were in China a few years ago, we were allowed to purchase a Chinese military uniform (we thought it might be useful at Halloween.) We just walked into a shop that sold uniforms and the guy sold us one.

But they wouldn't sell us the hat, just the uniform. Fortunately, my husband is short, otherwise, it wouldn't have fit, LOL.
