Jeffords soaked Simon and Schuster on a 2 book deal about leaving the GOP. The second book "An independent Man" was released in February. What I wonder is why would it take 2 books to tell what is essentially a 1 sentence story? The local Barnes and Noble's has a huge pile of Jeffords books that looked as though they were going untouched.
An excerpt in the local paper had Jeffords saying that he never liked the GOP but that was teh only way to get elected in Vermont at the start of his carreer. Yes indeed a real man of convictions.

It's doing much better than I thought. What a POS he is. It is so nice that the GOP recaptured the Senate. I hope JJ loves the lack of power he craved...

At first I was thinking that this was an issue between the owners of S&S and the managers of S&S. It's the owners' money...they can waste it any way they want. Then I realized...the government has made it illegal to waste it on a sham deal with a politician.
This should be investigated! Bribe...payoff...Book publishing executives couldn't get to the top and be this stupid!

I'm sure it's a real page turner.

What's even funnier is that Amazon is actually suggesting that people but Jefford's book it along with Al & Tipper's "
Joined at the Heart" in order to qualify for free shipping.
Though they don't mention it, I imagine those big bags full of air that amazon uses for shipping could probably function as a servicable barf bag...
BTW, Gorons' book is #70118 at amazon.

You're right..
Everything you need to know about the Jeffords back-stab could be written on a match book cover, so how did he get parlay two books out of the deal?
Now he's hated by Republicans and since the Rats aren't in power and since he's not one of them anyway (he's an "independent") there's absolutely no market for his book..
Who's left to read it?

This is the big problem with book publishing today. Since books take a year from contract to shelf, you need topics that have an enduring significance -- so anyone will care 12 months hence. Writing about people or events doesn't work unless it was a big enough deal that you know a year won't undermine people's interest. Books need to be about ideas. Unfortunately, the business is in the grips of people who go for flash-in-the-pan acts like Jeffords. Then they wonder why there are 1,000 copies of Al & Tipper sitting on the remainder table. You'd think they'd learn.

I saw Jumpin' Jeffords plugging his "book" on C-SPAN Booknotes the other day - the guy is inarticulate and dumb as rocks! I do feel sorry for Vermonters, so all I can say is hang in there til '06.

"An Independent Man"What a joke! There is nothing independent about this man. He votes 100% with the socialist dems.
To: Consort
lol... I thought 'An Independant Moron' was the real name of the book. He would probably sell more copies with a believable title.

I met Jeffords when I was in the "Close up" government studies program in the 80s. I was shocked to discover what a dunce he was. I even remarked to one of the adults about this and he said, "You would be surprised how common that is here".
