JAPAN OFFERS UNCONDITIONAL SUPPORT OF U.S.A. ON IRAQ ATTACK ISSUE, U.N. RESOLUTION OR NOT
Yomiuri News (Original Article in Japanese) ^ | 7 March 2003 | AmericanInTokyo

From the Japanese language Yomiuri News report:

The Government of Japan has just announced (around 1 p.m. Eastern Time Thursday) that it will UNCONDITIONALLY STAND WITH THE UNITED STATES, and will support it's ally in the event war is brought upon Iraq, and this support is WITH OR WITHOUT any additional, new United Nations Resolution.

The statement said that time has run out for Iraq to disarm, the US will be supported by Japan, and the US-Japan alliance will be in place.

Japan will note in it's statement, coming up shortly, that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction, has been told time and again to eliminate them, they have not done so, the US may move to take action, and since the continued possession of WMD by Iraq is unacceptable, Japan has made the official decision they will follow whatever the USA does in this situation. They state that Iraq is only strengthened by the positions put forth by France, Germany and Russia, as it delays Iraqi compliance with the UN resolutions.

Japan noted that action on Iraq is liable to occur in the early hours of an upcoming morning in Iraq, therefor, noting international time differences, Japan will be the first major democracy in the world to issue a statement on the hostilities; and in this sense, it is readying itself for a quick, strong message of US support by Prime Minister Koizumi.

Japan is citing UN Resolutions 1441, 678 and 687 as reason enough for it now to support the United States in the event of war. In addition, it says it wants no division between the United States and Japan with the current, increasing threats from neighbor North Korea, so it will fortify wherever possible the existing US-Japan military alliance.

Japan, with the 2nd largest economy in the world SHOULD be on the UN SC.

India, with the 2nd largest population SHOULD be on the UN SC.

After this thing is settled, the US should start pressing for realistic REFORM of the UN.

Doggone it. They figured out the Plan.

Even those damned Weasels are going to figure it out and force us to accept the authorization of the U.N. to invade Iraq. The only way to stop it now will be for us to veto their authorization.

Shoot. They're going to avoid the trap we set to destroy the U.N. once and for all. Damn it all to hell. We were too obvious.

LOL.

Shoot. They're going to avoid the trap we set to destroy the U.N. once and for all. Damn it all to hell. We were too obvious.

I (cynically) laugh in whole-hearted (cynical) agreement.

The only disadvantage to excommunicating the UN from the USA, is that they will have nowhere else to go than the Secondary UN Headquarters in... Geneva.

An ignominious usage for a once-great Protestant Town. Ahh, the Swiss... great adherents to the Ideals of Christian Peace; they will never pick a fight, even when they should.

It's a shame that John Calvin really wasn't the sort of "Dictator" that the Roman Catholics claim him to be... were he alive today, and were he the sort of "Dictator of Geneva" that the Roman Catholics make him out to be, I have little doubt that he would be applying the firebrands to the foundations of UN Geneva.

Of course, as a Christian Libertarian, I have no intention of offering my Moral Approval to the execution of Arson. Please understand that I'd be selling John Calvin the match-sticks and kerosene to burn down UN Geneva as a purely Capitalistic matter.

As an heir to Scot Presbyterianism, I'd just be in it for the Profit, mind you. I really wouldn't be trying to hide any personal joy on the matter, honest.

Japan announced a few hours ago, that of their FOUR diplomats remaining in Iraq, TWO have immediately left for Amman, Jordan to get out of the country. It is thought the remaining TWO will be out very soon. (9:30 a.m. Eastern Time Friday).

Japan said they are closing down their diplomatic presence finally, as it appears war is imminent.

They left saying there are still a few Japanese nationals in the country, primarily "human shields" demonstrators, who did not leave when they had the chance, and after Japanese embassy personnel pleaded with them and ordered them.

Why is this not all over the conservative media? Is this story for real? Fox and Limbaugh would have picked it up by now at least.

Koizumi: Public at times wrong (The Asahi Shimbun) He rejects anti-war results of opinion polls. Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi said Wednesday that public opinion isn't always right and history provides many examples of when it was, in fact, wrong. ``If political decisions are made based on public opinion, mistakes may be made,'' Koizumi said. ``That has been demonstrated by history.'' He made his comments during questioning in the Upper House Budget Committee, which began deliberating the fiscal 2003 government budget proposal. After indicating his support for the United States and Britain and their new U.N. Security Council resolution against Iraq, he was asked about public opinion polls in Japan that show majorities opposed to military action against Iraq. ``When examining whether a government has been right after being influenced by public opinion, there are many instances from historical fact that show that is not the case,'' he said. ``When pressure has been applied, Iraq has reluctantly agreed to cooperate in areas where it had previously refused. Such factors must also be taken into consideration.'' Koizumi said the hard-line stance taken by the United States and Britain has produced results. ``Since the new resolution was submitted, Iraq has come out with new forms of cooperation even though it had said that it was already cooperating sufficiently,'' Koizumi said. ``That shows that the pressure is working.'' He also pointed out that while a peaceful resolution to the Iraqi crisis was desirable, Baghdad may have presumed too much regarding the reaction of the international community. ``At this time, we should send a clear message to Iraq that it no longer has any time,'' Koizumi said.

Yes. True. But a lot of developments in Asia that favor the conservative viewpoint, are squelched by editors or not followed up by reporters from the USA. It often takes getting these directly from the foreign news sources, such as we are doing here on FR.
