JAPAN OFFERS UNCONDITIONAL SUPPORT OF U.S.A. ON IRAQ ATTACK ISSUE, U.N. RESOLUTION OR NOT
Yomiuri News (Original Article in Japanese) ^ | 7 March 2003 | AmericanInTokyo

From the Japanese language Yomiuri News report:

The Government of Japan has just announced (around 1 p.m. Eastern Time Thursday) that it will UNCONDITIONALLY STAND WITH THE UNITED STATES, and will support it's ally in the event war is brought upon Iraq, and this support is WITH OR WITHOUT any additional, new United Nations Resolution.

The statement said that time has run out for Iraq to disarm, the US will be supported by Japan, and the US-Japan alliance will be in place.

Japan will note in it's statement, coming up shortly, that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction, has been told time and again to eliminate them, they have not done so, the US may move to take action, and since the continued possession of WMD by Iraq is unacceptable, Japan has made the official decision they will follow whatever the USA does in this situation. They state that Iraq is only strengthened by the positions put forth by France, Germany and Russia, as it delays Iraqi compliance with the UN resolutions.

Japan noted that action on Iraq is liable to occur in the early hours of an upcoming morning in Iraq, therefor, noting international time differences, Japan will be the first major democracy in the world to issue a statement on the hostilities; and in this sense, it is readying itself for a quick, strong message of US support by Prime Minister Koizumi.

Japan is citing UN Resolutions 1441, 678 and 687 as reason enough for it now to support the United States in the event of war. In addition, it says it wants no division between the United States and Japan with the current, increasing threats from neighbor North Korea, so it will fortify wherever possible the existing US-Japan military alliance.

I guess you can start considering Toyotas now.

But stay away from Nissan - Renault owns 44.4 percent of Nissan and Nissan owns 15 percent of Renault.

Even though we nuked them twice, they appreciated our generous and charitable occupation and rebuilding of their society.

Not to mention fire-bombing Tokyo.

This balances off the ingrates, France and Germany.

Not to mention our peaceniks.

I called that phone number, and a lady answered in Japanese, but quickly changed to English when I asked her to. I told her that we good Americans thank Japan, for being there for us, and I told her we loved them for this. She was shocked (in a good way) and was very pleased, and so polite, and thankful for my call

Just did the same thing, some guy at the Japanese embassy picked up as well. Seemed utterly stunned that Americans would call (especially at this hour) and thanked us back.

Bump

Japan gets it. The out come of the Iraq crisis will have a huge inpact on what becomes of North Korea. Don't think for a minute the North Korea's aren't making calculations about how far they can push based on this on our how well our resolve is demostrated and how much of our forces our freed from the Northern/Southern Watch quagmire. To back down on Iraq now could very well lead to a nuclear arms race in Asia.

BTW, I think one could resonably argue that Japan is one of our top 2 or 3 allies.

Unlike France, Germany and Belgium - Japan has had sense enough not to import hordes of Muslims onto its shores. Thirty years from now, Japan will still be Japan, while many Western European countries, tragically, will be Islamic-majority hell-holes.

"What a joke. will they send troops? NOOOOOOO!"

They aren't allowed to. There military/navy is for DEFENSE only. They can't even do anything to stop N.K. until they are attacked first.
