JAPAN OFFERS UNCONDITIONAL SUPPORT OF U.S.A. ON IRAQ ATTACK ISSUE, U.N. RESOLUTION OR NOT
Yomiuri News (Original Article in Japanese) ^ | 7 March 2003 | AmericanInTokyo

From the Japanese language Yomiuri News report:

The Government of Japan has just announced (around 1 p.m. Eastern Time Thursday) that it will UNCONDITIONALLY STAND WITH THE UNITED STATES, and will support it's ally in the event war is brought upon Iraq, and this support is WITH OR WITHOUT any additional, new United Nations Resolution.

The statement said that time has run out for Iraq to disarm, the US will be supported by Japan, and the US-Japan alliance will be in place.

Japan will note in it's statement, coming up shortly, that Iraq has weapons of mass destruction, has been told time and again to eliminate them, they have not done so, the US may move to take action, and since the continued possession of WMD by Iraq is unacceptable, Japan has made the official decision they will follow whatever the USA does in this situation. They state that Iraq is only strengthened by the positions put forth by France, Germany and Russia, as it delays Iraqi compliance with the UN resolutions.

Japan noted that action on Iraq is liable to occur in the early hours of an upcoming morning in Iraq, therefor, noting international time differences, Japan will be the first major democracy in the world to issue a statement on the hostilities; and in this sense, it is readying itself for a quick, strong message of US support by Prime Minister Koizumi.

Japan is citing UN Resolutions 1441, 678 and 687 as reason enough for it now to support the United States in the event of war. In addition, it says it wants no division between the United States and Japan with the current, increasing threats from neighbor North Korea, so it will fortify wherever possible the existing US-Japan military alliance.

I called that phone number [ at the Japan Embassy in D.C ], and a lady answered in Japanese, but quickly changed to English when I asked her to. I told her that we good Americans thank Japan, for being there for us, and I told her we loved them for this. She was shocked (in a good way) and was very pleased, and so polite, and thankful for my call.-- 78 posted on 03/06/2003 4:18 PM EST by Mark17

I don't care if this is a calculated public-relations move.

It is simply stunning to see the people of a country we liberated twice (France),
the children of their oppressors (Germany) and the offspring of one of the
most evil regimes of all times (Russia) band together as one...

and the country that gave us Tojo, the crying baby on the railtracks, and the
devastation of Pearl Harbor....
be the one to come to their senses...and our aid.

Truth IS stranger than fiction.

If a man won't defend his honor, you just about be assured he has none.

>It is simply stunning to see the people of a country we liberated twice (France), the children of their oppressors (Germany) and the offspring of one of the most evil regimes of all times (Russia) band together as one...

"The fact is, militarily, all these nations - even when taken together - are nothing more than pygmies to the American giant - a giant which like Caesar "bestrides this narrow world like a colossus." These nations - especially the nations of the EC - are going to learn a very hard lesson in REALPOLITIK - that in this world nothing counts more than bullets from the barrel of a gun - and America has the "biggest, baddest" guns in the world.

"This is a particularly hard lesson to learn, especially for France and Germany - nations which thought that they could have militaries on the cheap, and who have been running on the naive assumption that equality with the United States could be measured simply in economic terms; that the world had advanced beyond the place where military power mattered, and that by cobbling together a patchwork of small and medium-sized nations in Europe that could approximate a creaky equality with the United States economically, they could elicit respect from America.

"But there are no "equals" in the American New World Order System, and whether they realize it or not, they are a part of that system - not as equals, but in the end (after all the fancy costuming has been stripped from them) only as humble supplicants little better than Guatemala and Argentina. The next few years will tell the story as they struggle to free themselves from the web in which they have been caught - like moths hopelessly beating their wings against the strands of web that hold them tight. What they will learn is that there are no meaningful economic blocs anymore (e.g., the EC, NAFTA, ASIAN, etc.) - only one seamless web. Globalization has proceeded too far now; there is no escaping it. There is only ONE system that matters any longer: The American New World Order System."

"For Freepers, if they wish to send messages of 'thanks':

Embassy of Japan 2520 Massachusetts Avenue, NW Washington DC 20008 Telephone: (202) 238-6700 Fax: (202) 328-2187 E-mail: eojjicc@erols.com URL: http://www.embjapan.org"

Actually, that's practically on my way home. I live and work in DC. I might bring them a nice handwritten card.

Good for the Japanese!

They know all about living under the thread of WMD, with North Korea so close.
