I guess this really that means the Liberals have found a very comfortable home in the Democratic party. They've moved in and taken over.

The Liberal Party failed to collect the 50,000 votes in last November's gubernatorial race needed to maintain its status as a recognized party in New York. As a result, the party lost its automatic ballot slots in New York and its members officially became unenrolled or independent voters for election purposes.

Party leaders decided to shut down, rather than petitioning their way onto each ballot _ an expensive and laborious fight that few parties have been able to consistently win. They closed their state headquarters in Manhattan, but told party faithful to "stay in touch" through their Web site

Or, the Working Families Party (WFP)has pulled all of the Liberal Party idealists. WFP is basically a socialist or labor party.
