The US delegates reply was, "We accept your terms. The bombing begins in five minutes. Thank you for legitimizing our attack."
"These are all top students and they are going to be our future leaders," she said.
Not very deep thinkers for our future leaders. Typical.

"The Model U.N., an independent organization, separated from Topeka Unified School District 501 years ago after the district opted not to fund the event. The program cost about $3,000 at that time. Student attendance has more than doubled since then."
Boy, they have been around for a long time, at least 501 years ago. Must have been Native American Indians.

Model U.N. Iraq delegate Lindsey Smith, an Emporia High School student, was told to formally withdraw her war resolution by the the U.N. Security Council. ROFL... yes, many bloody conflicts have been prevented by the UN's refusal to give their permission for war. Every aggressive nation has always sought permission before shedding blood. Truly brilliant historians we have here.

Sounds like even the School District wont pay for this hooey anymore, so liberal groups pick up the tab.

When I was in H.S., I took an International Relations course, and the students each took a seat, representing a nation in the UN. I think the only lesson we learned, was that at the end of the term, anarchy ensued, because who cares what resolutions you pass, when the class is almost done? I think the communist states, overtook the western states, in the end. The term was over, so we never got to see how this chaos would have played out, later. Students are too naive, in most cases to understand cause-and-effect relationships, let alone geo-political ramifications. Pretending to govern, is not the same as assuming the mantle of responsibility, as we can see from the current UN situation.

Lindsey must know that Iraq always contacts the UN before invading a neighboring country..

If the UN was like high school dealing with France would be simple:

"
Iraq attempted to declare war on the United States on Tuesday morning at Topeka's 39th annual Model United Nations, but the action failed."As if a declaration of war by one sovereign nation against another would ever be undertaken through the UN in the first place.

This is not just a model for gifted students. When I visited some social studies classes in a Middle School several years ago, the big project the 7th graders were working on was taking a country and presenting their plan to the UN (their class) for aid and having the UN vote on the better plan. An international relations course in an area high school that year was showing films--all from the UN. They were propagandist garbage with an "objective" label. These aren't bad schools either. Our kids are bombarded with this stuff.

Does anybody remember The Simpsons episode where they had the UN Club meeting. It was the 'Lord of the Flies' spoof episode. At one point all the students starting arguing and hitting each other. Principal Seymor Skinner says (if I remember correctly)."Children, do you all want to sit around a bicker and waste time or do you want to act like the UN". I believe that was the quote. When I read this story, I immediatly thought of that episode.

It doesnt suprise me looking at the topics to be covered in the model UN that the communists took over at the end.
From the article 'Students discussed several topics, including the weapons policy inspections toward Iraq, independence for Tibet, victims of sex crimes in male dominated socities, protecting water systems from bio terrorists, compensation to civilians during acts of war, vaccinations in case of biological warfare, capital punishment for minors, detection and disposal of land mines..

Has the UN ever decisively approved a war resolution before active and wide-spread hostilities commenced?
