Set up a group of golfing buddies that are very strong conservatives. Then just make sure that you have him out numbered every time you play. Then he can get really worked up. The conservatives can just have casual talk giving their viewpoints and ignoring this clown. Evenutally he will either get enough input and start to think or he will take his marbles and go home. Either way you still have a golfing buddy.

I keep hearing and seeing this liberal anti-American crap about how we supposedly supported Bin Ladin. Nothing could be further from the truth - the mujahadeen elements we supported were the same folks who made up the Northern Alliance we enabled to fight Bin Ladin and the Taliban.

There’s too much ranting on in his argument to rebut it point by point.

But what he says can be divided into threes.

He objects to the high costs of war. Sometimes freedom comes at a high cost (e.g. Normandy). Bush is cleaning up 8 years of neglect and back-room bribes under Clinton. If we don’t kill the midgets now, we’ll be fighting goliath in a very few years. You think the economy is in a rut now, what do you think would happen if another 9-11 type of attack were to hit? Or worse yet, a dictator controlled the world’s oil supply? Worse yet, if a small nuke went off in one of our cities?
The economy. It’s cyclical and this time exacerbated by a false bubble in the late 90s, and by the 911 and war situation. Again, sometimes war hurts even if it is necessary. “Absolutely no domestic economic policy” There are only so many things government can do to help the economy. Cut interest rates. Spend. Cut taxes. Deregulate. So what could Bush do, cut interest rates even more? Spend even more money? Ask for even more tax cuts? Your friend would complain if he did any of these. In the area of deregulation this administration has done some interesting “little” things to help the economy along, like relax the patent restrictions on drug companies so that competing companies can make generic drugs. This has stimulated the drug making industry and helped lower prescription costs, which eases the burden on seniors and stimulates a certain part of our economy. Bush has probably done lots of little things like this that your friend is probably not aware of. But again, a President can only do so much. There are other factors now controlling this economy. ECONOMIES ARE CYCLICAL and the variations can be effected by things like war, and technology bubbles. It’s just reality.
Is your friend suggesting Bush (while still a young man) had anything at all to do with Reagan or Nixon? Does he actually believe the goofy conspiracy theories? At least Bush Jr. is trying to clean up some mess and he’s being consistent and effective about it.
Myself I don’t care so much for the power this administration has over privacy, so I can’t completely disagree with some of his statements.
Anyhow, the others posting on this thread are right. It’s hard to teach a pig to sing so you might not waste your time. I have (and keep) liberal friends. The benefits of having them as friends outweigh the annoyance of listening to their political ignorance. I tell them this repeatedly. They are slowly coming around – especially as they get older and understand more about reality.

Thanks for the thoughtful respose to my dilemna...truly solomonesque. I'll give it careful consideration along with the other suggestions for helping him with therapy and medications.

Ask your friend "The Matrix" question:

"If everything you have ever been taught, believed, assumed to be true, were false, would you want to know the truth?"

If he answers "No" then lose him, he doesn't live in the real world.

If he says "Yes" then give him some turth and places to verify them.

By the way, what is your answer to that same question?
If it's not "Yes" then forget all about this note and go play golf with your buddy.

Freedom comes with a price...but that price must be understood...we do not need new secret organizations controlled by our military to have access to our privacy...ala the FBI nut J. Egar Hoover. Hoover has history has shown, abused this power, unbeknown to the congress, and the people of this fine nation. We need a balanced thought process, one that looks at all variables. Only then can our nation continue to be lead on a path that protects all of the little people of our country. The old who need help...the young who need education...the aging who need Social Security. We do not need an administration that caters to the poor, abused rich and powerful.
Balance of distribution of wealth made this country strong. All you have to do is go back to the turn of the 20th century and see..1 percent of the people controlled 90 pwercent of this nations wealth. If we fail to understand this..in time this great nation will no longer have..the American Dream..it will be simply a joke! As our fore fathers laid down their lives..both Republicans and Democrats..they fought and they gave their lives on Omaha Beach..Battle of the Bulge..in the Pacific...War of Independence...etc...

Those last few lines say, "I'm a Kool Aid drinking loser who isn't interested in facts." Don't waste your time.

Hence, 911 and 3,000 lives lost, the 1993 World Trade Center attack, attacks on U.S. embassys, and an attack on a U.S. Navy ship. Eliminating the control of leftists over our intelligence operations is in the interest of national security, and is, therefore, a practical decision.

Korea buzzes an unarmed spi plane of ours...typical saber rattling..has been going on for years..what does Bush do..assign our fighter jets to fly along side these spi planes...great, so now, out in the middle of no where they can fire on these outdated migs..and we have a nuclear exchange.. the Korean people die by the tens of thousands...first three day death estimate...by our military..15,000 to 20.000 American soldiers, 100,000+ South Koreans, Seol will be completely destroyed by an estimated 500,000 artillery and rocket rounds. Japan will be fired upon...estimated deaths by our military in Japan 10,000+.

Yes, the Clinton Administration (plus Carter) sure made a mess of things in North Korea. But, no worry. Dubya will clean it up.

The war in North Korea will be swift, and require no ground troops. The fall-out will present a minor problem, but nothing to be alarmed about. After the U.S. and Britain put Saddam and his murderous son in the ground, the U.N. will be begging the U.S. coalition to let "U.N." troops take charge of "nation building" (Russia, France, and Germany will take the lead for the U.N. -- they have the most to cover up in Iraq). By the time Dubya took over in January 2001, the NASDAQ had lost half its value and was still on a downturn (so were the other markets since much of the economy is interrelated). Before the markets could recover, there was 911, and then the accounting scandals (which, in itself, had created an artificial market bubble in the economy). Tie that to the constant obstruction by the Dashle controlled Senate, which denied our nation a reasonable economic stimulus, and it's a damn wonder we are not in a depression. Thank Dubya for holding our nation and economy together.

I believe Dubya's reasoning is the same reasoning used by the state of California, which has a $250,000 cap on "pain and suffering". There will be no caps on actual medical costs. Not only is this reasonable (more and more states are adopting caps) but is necessary to save the medical industry. For example, in my state doctors have left in droves because of the insanity of the current tort system.

Under Bush Jr....he allowed a 30 hour seize fire to be implimented when Bin Laden was surrounded in the southern town that was home to his headquaters..quietly the western border to Pakistan was opened up during the evening hours, even though the city was surrounded..guess who walked out of the back door and is still free today...our CIA trained former (Regan Administarion freind) Bin Laden!
