[US Workplace/School] 'Sickout' to Protest Potential Iraq War
The Tri Valley Herald (California) ^ | March 5, 2004 SGT | Josh Richman

Workers and students across the nation plan to skip work and school Wednesday in a national moriatorium to stop the impending war against Iraq.

Backed by dozens of religious, labor, community and anti war groups, the moriatorium's theme is 'no school, no work no business as usual.'

Participants are being encouraged to call in sick close their businesses, cancel classes, hold workplace talks about the war, conduct special services at house of worship and stage non violent protests.

The student walkout has gained a momentum of its own, with thousands of students on more than 200 campuses pledging to boycott classes.

In the Bay Area, plans are underway at campuses including U of California at Berkeley, California State University and De Anza College, as well as some high schools.

Some students are also demanding that their campuses remove ROTC and JROTC military training programs, and they are calling for a repeal of the Federal No Child Left Behind Act provision requiring high schools to give students names to military recruiters.

Many observant people will take the day and fast, or, attend a Noontime Mass.....

I am only saying that it seems to me, a cynical attempt to use an existing condition to bolster the numbers.

After all, they could have used Thursday.

We may get out of the economic slowdown if these liberals keep calling in sick to work!

(Gasp!) Do you mean this is a cynical opportunity for liberals to boost their protest numbers?

Most of these jokers probably dont work while they are there under "normal" circumstances anyway
Liberals ...
Those who believe that their "convictions" entitle them to disrupt anyone's else's lives who happen to be in their line of fire..
Their "convictions" are so sacred...that they would stand by and watch others suffer rather than violate them (convictons) including their own children (who they arent so opposed to violating)..
Especially just before they are born....

Have you noticed that these folks always opt for the skip work, don't honor your commitments type events? Where is the anti-war protest "Show your support for no war - Work For Free", or Work Four Hours More and Refuse Overtime, or Suport Peace - Pick Up trash Along the Freeway, Why can't they give something extra to demonstrate their convictions instead of always taking something to demonstrate their dis-pleasure?

Because they are almost universally selfish, small minded louts who only want their bubbling nonsense forced on others, not meant for them, don't you know
