Beyond parody, beyond sarcasm, beyond disgust.

No, I'm not just talking about Wheeler's dementia. I'm talking about the response above to it, as well.

Compared to this rationalizing, a thermonuclear device dropped on Baghdad would be a model of moral rectitude.

If we descend to this level of extrajudicial punishment, "justifying" it by doing so outside U.S. territory so that it's no longer constitutionally "cruel or unusual," the terrorists have won. That is, if turning our airports into mini-police-States hasn't handed them the prize already.

Are Americans to support torture? Can you let your adolescent sons or daughters read a suggestion such as this one (not the first from the despicable Wheeler) and say, with a straight face and a clean heart, "Forget what we've told you about following moral rules. Here, there are no rules"?

From another thread at FR: "Keep in mind what we're dealing with here: a mass murderer who is intent on inflicting more casualties," the official said. "One can understand why there's interest in getting everything we can from him." Stuff it, colorless brackel. The endangered American citizens mean so much more to me than your precious terrorist mass murderer's physical comfort.
