Aparently, he comes from a line of Navy pilots! I guess a 12-yr old reporter from Time for Kids did an interview with him last year. Rumsfeld told her that when he was around her age in 1944, he wanted to be a Navy pilot like his father.
The young lady was quoted as saying the following after the interview:
"Secretary Rumsfeld is so nice," she said. "He really seemed concerned and thought about his answers to my questions a lot, so I was really happy about this."
Another of Rumsfeld answers to a reporters question.......
Reporter: Mr. Secretary, is bin Laden alive or dead apparently, now? And if he is alive, is the United States winning the war on terrorism? Rumsfeld: Charlie, the answer to the question, 'Is he alive or dead' - the answer is, 'Yes, he is alive or dead.'
I think I either saw or read that interview. I think I remember reading that one of his desks is more like a wide podium -- a desk that he stands at.
I remember seeing a picture of him in his navy whites as a young man. He was so handsome. (And still is.)
