LOS ANGELES -- The Screen Actors Guild is warning the entertainment industry that it better not blacklist people who speak out against war with Iraq.
The statement released Monday champions free speech, and said, "Even a hint of the blacklist must never again be tolerated in this nation."

Tough toenails. We don't want Anti-Americans.

That's it...SAG can enforce their will on the producers not to blackball anyone but they can't enforce a damn thing on US!!!
You producers just keep the traitors scripts coming. WE'LL do the blackballing at the cinema's!!!!!

(If we stop going to the movies, Hollywoodites won't have the wealth and power to destroy America.)
It is pretty well known that for years, the industry has blacklisted conservatives. Unless a conservative actor is already famous (Bruce Willis, Arnold Schwartzanegger, etc.), he knows to keep his views private or he doesn't stand a chance in hollywood. Its funny, I don't recall the actor's guild warning about blacklisting conservatives.
I don't care about blacklisting. Companies want to make a profit. No company is going to blacklist a big-gun because of their views unless they think it will impact their bottom line - this is simple business. Notice how Bruce & Arnold don't have a problem getting gigs.
If an actor can produce revenue, he will be hired, regardless of his views. The blacklists IMHO only impacts the no-names who are trying to make it. These no-names aren't speaking out about the war because they aren't celebrities and thus have no pulpit.
If the guild is really concerned about blacklisting, I would recommend that they look at how small-time conservatives are treated in the industry.

Don't you love how they've turned this around - the unspoken implication is that it is OK to go after any stars who have the stones to stand up to the Hollyweird crowd and actually support the Administration...

I am more concerned about the "pro war" actors being black listed than the "anti war" group.

Let's see...all of Hollywood is owned by left wingers...and the Actor's Guild is telling left wingers not to blacklist left wingers....ABSURD...besides, although Hollywood won't black list anyone but conservatives, the American people, I think, have had enough of the vomit spew from the dunderheads....in the past week, I have heard several people I come in contact with in buisness say that they will never spend another dime on anything with LOONEY CLOONEY in it...

My wife conned me into watching
Pearl Harbor last year.
I was infuriated to see that a true American hero,
Jimmy Doolittle, was played by that commie "actor" Alec Baldwin.

Unbelievable- if the punk was believable in that role, I will grudgingly have to admit that he can act.
Gotta throw this keyboard away now and get one that's not polluted.

Thanks for your comments.
Yes, I assumed SAG was only blowing smoke, but wanted to get an insider's take on it.
I've thought for some time that many actors were keeping their mouth shut simply because they knew that doing otherwise would affect their net worth.
However, I did not know that parts of Hollywood were as conservative as you say.
I was under the impression that they had a sort of glitterati group-think going on.
As regards Israel, I'm not surprised that it's an important issue for Hollywood.
I think the Dems have lost a lot of their traditional Jewish support on this issue.

It's already working. I really used to adore Clooney. I thought he was handsome and funny. And he still is, but I just can't bring myself to look at him. Same thing alot of my friends are saying.

Aren't unions formed for collective bargaining? Why are there people working for scale, while the few are working for millions? Why are productions staged in Canada, instead of in America? Why do the high profile actors, allow work outside of the country, where the unions have no say, without protest? This is not a union, in the normal sense of the word. It is an attempt by our "betters", to make themselves a part of Americana. Like everything else in the entertainment industry, it is a false front.

The movies have been an effective tool for furthering leftist political belief systems for the past 40 years, it is time they had some competition. An excellent idea! (If I had a few spare millions, I'd chip in!)

Not just in Movies, TV also.
Tell the SciFi Channel you're not going to watch Children of Dune because of Susan Sarandon's outrageous anti-American leftist drivel!
