The United States waited TWO YEARS after Pearl Harbor before responding. In war strategy, patience is a virtue.

True enough. The first American aircraft carrier offensive in the Pacific theater of war took place on February 1, 1942 - less than two months after Pearl Harbor. The Battle of Midway was about six months after Pearl Harbor, on June 4-5, 1942.
