Students at hundreds of high schools are planning a walkout on Wednesday to protest the Bush Administration's plans for war in Iraq.
The 'student strike' is being coordinated by the National Youth and Student Peace Coalition, an organization of 15 student groups that came together after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.
The coalition, which calls the action 'Books not Bombs,' has linked student protests against war in Iraq with a call for better financed schools.
'Were getting about 10 schools a day contacting us to participate, and it's probably about 35-40 percent high schools, said Andy Burns, an organizer who is signing up schools from his office in Little Rock, Arkansas.
Mr. Burns said he expected about 300 colleges and high schools to participate in the walkout.
Many of the students organizing next weeks actions have portrayed the latest round of tuition increases at state colleges and universities as a 'war tax' on the poor.

My high school-age daughter hasn't mentioned anything about this, but then again, she knows her mother and I will stomp her into the middle of next week if she even thinks about staying out of school for something as retarded as this...

Any kid who skips school for "protests" should be immediately suspended. Mr. Burns should be charges with organized disruption of school. The kids can skip class to pretend "wisdom" about world affairs (They know better than the President!), but they had better not get caught praying!

" Why don't these teenagers get a job? Better yet, study their constitution for God's sake. What are these school faculty and administrators preparing these students to be.....the future generation of half wits? "
Sorry to tell you FRiend, but that is exactly right.....I have a friend who says that Admin is a Teacher who has turned Traitor.....he's right.

where are these high school students parents? mine would have hit the roof had I involved myself in something this ridiculous. There is no room for this sort of thing in school, they are supposed to be learning, that's it, that is what you do in school.
I hope there are some adults in these school administrations who will assign the appropriate repurcussions to students who think walking out of class is ok, unfortunately I don't think that is likely.

they should be suspended...
what will happen is half of these kid's teachers will spend the next week discussing the protests and centering all homework around it, "write a paper about your experiences at the protest and how it has changed your perspective"... A+ to the kids who spew the most BS... no learning will take place.
All freepers with high-school age kids should be contacting their kids schools and putting the pressure on, this is a waste, I can't believe this is happening.

I recall some kind of walk-out in high school in 1976. I walked out with the rest of the gang, lit a cigarette (I've since quit), and walked straight to the park, never looking back. To this day, I have no idea what the walkout was about, but I enjoyed the afternoon off. I suspect that most students that do participate will think similarly (though I hope they refrain from smoking - its a bear to quit).

The problem is that those inordinate percentage of idiots with teaching credentials is that they are still in our colleges. They need get a real job. They need to get a grip on reality....the reality that most people with real jobs look at their spouting venom against America is getting to be old.
To: tiamat
What needs to be taking place is to having those administrators placed under arrest for advocating the overthrow of this Country. And that is 18 U.S.C.A. 2383, 2384 and 2385 respectively.
While these administrators spout out anti-sentiment against America, our men and women, young and old, are being deployed to go fight a war. These soldiers are our heros. I salute them. Hats off to them!

Sadly, I think you're right-- it's teachers-- in cahoots with some other leftist/liberal entities.
