Student Groups [300 High School and Colleges] Plan National Wednesday Walkout to Protest War

Students at hundreds of high schools are planning a walkout on Wednesday to protest the Bush Administration's plans for war in Iraq.

The 'student strike' is being coordinated by the National Youth and Student Peace Coalition, an organization of 15 student groups that came together after the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001.

The coalition, which calls the action 'Books not Bombs,' has linked student protests against war in Iraq with a call for better financed schools.

'Were getting about 10 schools a day contacting us to participate, and it's probably about 35-40 percent high schools, said Andy Burns, an organizer who is signing up schools from his office in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Mr. Burns said he expected about 300 colleges and high schools to participate in the walkout.

Many of the students organizing next weeks actions have portrayed the latest round of tuition increases at state colleges and universities as a 'war tax' on the poor.

What a bunch of crap. These students don't know nothing and are blindly following crap ass arguments which don't mean anything.

I can't stand these hypocrites. I hope the administrations do something.

They should be expelled on this point alone. If they're truly so stupid as to believe this, then by definition their education has failed them and they cannot receive a diploma that holds any legitimacy.

I am a sophmore in high school. this is so stupid. Most high schoolers do not know what they are going to wear much less solving international problems. I am very into politics (conservative naturally) and keep up with the news because I am in extemperaneous speech for forensics. These kids have no idea what is going on and need to be grounded by their parents.

The university types are just grasping for straws here, there is no way that people will give a crap about more funding for the Ivy League while Saddam has WMD.

Isn't this nice......my son, Jonathan a Junior at Illinois State is doing a *military drop* Tuesday.....he just got activated and is about to be deployed, like his father.
So, while all these students are having their little walk out...thousands of young men, like Jonathan proudly serve their country......HOOAH, Jon!

Properly disciplined, this act should be enough to drop a few of them out of contention for the colleges of their choice. (But it will never happen.)

So, while all these students are having their little walk out...

Congrats to you and your son.

I wonder how many of these young misguided jerks would be participating if the event was scheduled for after school??????

I'm glad you realize how sutpid some of your classmates are.

Last time against Afganistan after 9/11 these liberals felt the same way but knew that they couldn't say anything because the public support was too much against them.

Now, when they think they can make it a political issue against the GOP- all of the freaks come out of the woodwork ..

The school administrators and faculty. You know, the leftovers of the 60's radical Old Left who never grew up and despise America and freedom. It's a mental illness that they are trying to incorporate into today's generation of students' frame of mind.

The adults instigating this are the leftist teachers who infest many schools.... these aging hippies have now found willing heads full of mush to fill with nonsense and counterfeit ideals.

So they will march to 'peace' and save Saddam the dictator and warmonger. they will march to keep the world less safe and secure, because they dont like USA winning wars.
