An hour ago on C-SPAN's "Book TV" uber-puke Eric Alterman went on a semi-coherent tirade about Free Republic.
While in the process of flacking his book..."The Myth of Liberal Bias" (or sumpin like that), he claimed that, during the Florida recount, the saint-like members of this forum posted the phone numbers and home addresses of the Florida Supremes for the expressed purpose of harassment and/or "whatever". The "whatever" was obviously the suggestion of violence.
He also said Free Republic was repsonsible for the flood of Republican activists who descended on the state and therefore was responsible for the Bush presidency.
This is one powerful place, Gumbas. Congratulate yourselves...the left-wing bows to your awesome strength.
The source of his tirade seemed to be his book which might be worth checking out. Just figure out how to do it without actually paying money for it.
Another fact he flung at his tiny, badly-dressed book store audience, was that people came to Free Republic and stayed for 5+ hours, making us an unbeatable force since Liberals suffer from ADD and can't stay with anything longer than the average bowel movement. (I paraphrased that last bit)

"He also said Free Republic was repsonsible for the flood of Republican activists who descended on the state and therefore was responsible for the Bush presidency." There's a LOT more where that came from too!

Alterman is just trolling for some freepers to review his collection of lies over at Amazon.I took a little spin over there and found this nice little rant...
The author is really much too kind to Fox News (also known as Faux News)which is the al-Jazerra of the Republican Party. Conservatives like to tout the statistics about the viewership of Fox News (also known as the second comedy channel on cable) but fail to also consider that the size of the audience is not an indication of the credibility of the network. The viewers of Fox News fall into three classes: (1) Devout believers in the conservative movement who are too lazy to truly seek out balanced news, (2) The curious who try to keep track of what the right-wing nuts are being programmed to believe at the moment, and (3) Those of us in search of laughs. Once upon a time America had the choice of watching TV programs that satirized the current news and now in the absence of just such programming, Fox News fills the need because it is such a comedy.
I hear this alot from liberals. FoxNews is driving them crazy. hehehehe...I love it.

"people came to Free Republic and stayed for 5+ hours, making us an unbeatable force since Liberals suffer from ADD and can't stay with anything longer than the average bowel movement." "still the basic truth about Liberals"
ADD can only be blamed for so much. There is a hyperfocus side to ADD that is often overlooked, and when well-directed can be a powerful positive force. Speaking as someone who has been "blessed" with ADD, and can spend in excess of 18 hours on FR, and have on occasion, I know something of what I speak. A better way to state the above would be to say that the liberals use ADD as an excuse; just something else to blame to avoid any personal accountability for their actions.

Good summary.
As always, thank you.

LOL! Freepers apparently overcame the hordes of democrat lawyers who descended upon Florida the day after the election...That is monumental!

"I remember watching that on T.V. It was awesome!" And Jesse was PO'd! He really didn't like it one bit when a "conservative mob" took to the streets. I laughed so hard. And of course he presumed it was a rent-a-mob, a la J.J. I guess it was inconceivable to him that there really are Americans who stand on principle and are not motivated by the kinds of little incentives used to rally the left.

"MostADD'ers have high IQ, that eliminates most liberals" You are so right. Unfortunately, most people are misinformed about ADD.

Some of us have to be on the road and away form our computers sometimes days at a time and NEED that 72 straight hours to catch up!

A survey of all editorial endorsements for Presidential and Senatorial elections over the past ten years by the country's top 100 newspapers (circulation) would settle the question of their political preference once and for all. (And anyone who is buffoonish enough to suggest that editorial endorsements do not reflect the slant of a paper's news reporting can simply be reminded of where it is that editors come from.)
I don't have the results of such a survey, but I don't think I need them to know where the numbers will fall. And the network news crowd comes from the same cesspool.

It should come as no surprise to me that there are many FReepers with ADD and who are familiar with its nature and nuances. See my post #185.

There are some people in the media who are so intellectually dishonest that reading what they have to say is to pay them too high a compliment. Alterman is such an example. His Orwellian technique of characterizing liberal speech as 'patriotic' but conservative speech as "harassment" is a perfect example. His claim that the media is conservative, despite all the evidence to the contrary, is another reason not to take him seriously. Every time I see Alterman on MSNBC or Newsweek, my reaction is "Why Bother?".
