Lou Reed, Jay-Z, Dave, Missy, others join alliance

Russell Simmons
Peace train
Russell Simmons, Lou Reed and David Byrne were among the artists on hand in New York yesterday to announce the formation of Musicians United to Win Without War, an industry-wide peace alliance. Jay-Z, Missy Elliott, Sheryl Crow, Dave Matthews, Outkast, Busta Rhymes, Roseanne Cash and Tweet are among the other members of the group, which will use its public platform to support weapons inspections, as opposed to invasion and occupation, as a means to resolve the conflict with Iraq.
The group took out several ads in the country's major newspapers this week. Members will also work in conjunction with social organizations like the Sierra Club, the NAACP and NOW, as well as the film-industry analog, Artists United to Win Without War, to enhance public awareness of the complex issues that make up the conflict.
Along with the rapper Mos Def, Simmons, head of Def Jam and the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network, has also recorded two thirty-second TV spots attacking the Bush administration's policies in the Middle East.

I am honestly past the point of caring what these nitwits think. They are all fine role models *sarcasm*.

I regret buying David Byrne albums in the early 80's.

The important question is - WHAT ARE WE DOING TO COUNTER this small, but highly visible movement?

I'd really like to get my hands on one of those newspaper advertisements they bought for a collectors item.
I'd frame it and put it on the wall of my daughters' bedrooms as a consistant reminder who the traitors were in the good old year of 2003. That should help them with their CD buying decisions when they grow up and have their first job's paychecks to spend.

"Musicians United to Win Without War," or "MUWWW," the sound a cow makes.
What's hilarious about this is that Russell Simmons is the king of hip-hop and rap. He can't even disarm his own artists, and he thinks he knows how to disarm Saddam Hussein! Russell, when you can settle the war between the East Coast and West Coast, then you can start advising the Pentagon.
