Support Our Troops Fayetteville, North Carolina
The families and friends of the military would like to stage a "Support Our Troops" gathering at the Cumberland County Department of Social Services Building on March 8th from 10 a.m.-1p.m. Our residents want to show support for the brave men and women who are serving to protect our freedom.
This is important. Our troops deserve support right now! They're laying it on the line for us overseas and all they see in the media is hundreds of thousands of anti-war/anti-American demonstrators marching in our streets. It is evident that the Anti-war Protests frustrate our deployed troops and it is beginning to affect morale.
I urge all veterans, their friends and families and all others who want to stand up for America and support our troops to join us for a "Support Our Troops" rally.
As the United States prepares to take the next step in the war on terrorism with probable action in Iraq, it is imperative that we get out and show support for our troops and all thats good about America.
Our troops are there to give theirs lives if necessary in order to prevent another 9-11 from happening to us. Now more than ever, they need to see your support back home. Please dont let them down.
Come out with your yellow ribbons and bring your flags lets show our troops how much we support them.
If you have any questions please contact JoAnne (jonesjg@earthlink.net or call 910-423-4640). Thanks in advance for any help.
One of my grandfathers served in Korea in the AF & all but ran the mess hall at Pope AFB afterwards. My other grandfather served in Korea & Vietnam in the Army & was a proud member of PsyOps. My uncle was in the 82nd in Desert Storm/Shield. Needless to say, my family has always supported the men in uniform.
Hubby will actually be in a shooting match in Lillington down that way that day too. Possible he can put in a little time before he has to be at the range.

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. -- A military spouse in Cumberland County does not want the controversy of war to overshadow the work of soldiers. She wants all servicemembers to know how much support they have at home.
After seeing antiwar protests on TV, JoAnne Jones, a military spouse, said she wanted to do something to make it very clear to all deployed soldiers that they have support at home.
Yellow ribbons inside and outside of JoAnne Jones' home are a sign of support for the military.
"I care about the morale of all soldiers because my husband could be over there," she said.
Jones has been married to her Army husband for nearly 19 years. He was deployed during Operation Enduring Freedom, but is now back at home.
After seeing all the antiwar protests on TV, Jones wanted to make it very clear to all deployed soldiers that they have support at home.
"I had to do something, especially here in Fayetteville, at Fort Bragg," she said.
She is now organizing a Support Our Troops rally for Saturday. In just two weeks, word of the rally has spread.
Hundreds of people from across the state are expected to wear her homemade ribbons and wave her banners at Rowan Street Park.
Jones' grassroots effort caught the attention of lawmakers and city leaders. Jones hopes people will wear her ribbons and wave American flags at the rally.
Jones' grassroots effort caught the attention of city leaders. Some councilmembers wrote checks out of their personal accounts to rent the park.
The state's VFW Commander has also asked all veterans to rally behind the cause.
"We've been there, done that. So we know the signs, symptoms to use for encouragement -- not only for the troops, but for support of their families," said Saundra Clagett, VFW District Commander.
Jones said this is not about being for or against war. It is about being there for the servicemembers fighting for our freedom.
Jones has received written support from Gov. Mike Easley and several lawmakers, including senators Elizabeth Dole and John Edwards.
The rally takes place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday at Rowan Street Park. Jones said she has received calls from people across the state who plan to attend.
I hope this is right, I've never been to Fayetteville. I tried to post a map but it won't allow me to link from Yahoo maps.

There aren't many parks in Fayetteville, so I'm sure you've got the right one.
