I woke up at 4:30 am with a LOT of work to do.

Now I have to debate whether or not to tell my 4 year old.

I'm guessing not.

It's not just a Burgh thing, but it's particularly acute locally.

Hank Baughman on WSHH didn't know. He came in with 2 minutes to news at 5. Luckily I prep that station too so I filled him in. He ended up doing about a two minute obit and blowing off most other news.

I'm doing news at WJAS and just starting to put my casts together. I figure I might just do the same thing Hankie did.

And yes, Thank you Mr Rogers for making the neighborhood a nicer place.

One of the greatest lessons taught by Mr. Rogers was that children should be told the Truth gently. All children will face loss in their lives. Mr. Rogers has died, but he gave us so much during his life.

I suggest you use this opportunity to experience loss with the security of love and hope with your 4 year old. This will be on the news all day, and is better explained by you. Break the news and snuggle up on the couch together with a box of Kleenex handy. Mr. Rogers will forever live in our hearts.

JMHO, but I don't think that it's necessary. A 4 year old still has a hard time distinguishing b/w reality and fantasy, throwing death into the equation, makes that even more difficult.
