[history]
The Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that a federal racketeering law was improperly used to punish aggressive anti-abortion protesters, a major victory for people who regularly block clinic doors.
The court's 8-0 ruling applies to protests of all sorts, not just at clinics.

Sorry - that should have read, "The major media *silence* is resounding, is it not?"

All I can say is it's about time the courts shut down this RICO nonsense. Over ambitious prosecutors have taken this law designed to combat the Mob and twisted it so that if any member of a group commits a crime the entire organization can be shut down and their assets seized. Basically punishing a group for the crimes of an individual.
This isn't just a victory for the pro-life folks, its a victory for anybody that values freedom of association and individual responsibility.

The left is going to just about have a heart attack over this. You're right, but the strange thing is, they shouldn't. This ruling protects all forms of peaceful dissent and the expression thereof. The liberals were mad because they are for all forms of protest, as long as it is protest they favor. If it was protest against the liberal line, they were more than willing to misapply the RICO statutes and other laws to stifle it (the hypocrites).
Even Alan Colmes, bless his liberal bleeding heart, recognized this. Hey, I like Colmes, for some strange reason (but I didn't say I agree with him)...

It wasn't 8-0. It was 8-1. Stevens dissented.
This is great. What this says is that the judge should never have sent this case to a jury in the first place. It is also great that there was only one dissenter.

And the Supremes just turned down an appeal against the Indiana abortion waiting-period law. Looks like they are once again following the election returns.

Not a word yet on the News.
If the Supremes had ruled 8-1 in favor of the abortionists, you can bet it would be the leading, breathless headline filled with all kinds of commentary and interviews with the winners!
All I hear is stunned silence.
