Staff Reporter PRETORIA, 25 February 2003 A South African court has postponed the fraud trial of former first lady Winnie Madikizela-Mandela after her co-defendant was injured in a car accident and hospitalised last week.
PRETORIA: After a brief hearing Monday, the Pretoria Regional Court postponed the proceedings until Wednesday or Thursday, depending on the condition of the co-defendant, Addy Moolman. Authorities say his injuries are not life-threatening.
Moolman and the ex-wife of former President Nelson Mandela face 60 counts of fraud and 25 charges of theft.
The trial centres on an alleged scheme involving the use of the former first lady's signature to fraudulently obtain bank loans, and on the alleged theft of money in a funeral scheme.
