I'm having Eric insomnia again, Miss Marple. 4:00 seems to be the hour that I can't get him out of my head.

You know, I was noticing the same thing as I read. Yesterday, when we Dosers were all grouped as birdbrains and nitwits in one basher's posts, I couldn't help but think how very blind he was to the truth. Because we admire the President, we are labeled as idiots, but there are some of the smartest, kindest, most loving people on this thread, and the country needs more of it......not less.

Are the people here so wonderful because wonderful people are drawn to this honorable, loving man, or does seeing the way he treats others day after day......some of whom have 'despitefully used' him......somehow make us all more caring ourselves? Or perhaps, is it a little of both?

Part of me wants to keep arguing with these people and trying to make them 'see'......but most of me knows that it is hopeless, because they don't want to see.

Early morning musings........I'm going to try to get some more sleep before I have to get up for work. :o\

I have been cautioned by those who care about me (and my blood pressure!) to leave the hopelessly blind alone.

I can't, sometimes. It's not in my stubborn, head-strong nature.

There's a part of me that hopes I can salvage just one person, although I know that's usually not the case.

Hang in there. You are in the *BEST* place possible for like-minded people. The others are here merely to "test our resolve." That's the way I look at it.

I'm off to get ready for work.

On a certain anti-war musicians forum, someone called Condi Rice a pathetic b!tch.

Irrational, ad hominem attack with no basis in reality.

She is anything but pathetic: Brilliant, savvy, and on top of her impressive game. She tells it like it is, and closely advises the President by gathering, consolidating, and clarifying information from others in a professional, not "b!tchy" way. Besides, she's a Presbyterian! for heaven's sake. Flamboyancy in the form of "b!itchiness" is out by definition.

Garafalo was being her usual self.

Did you notice how much she sounds like Hillary? I was in the kitchen when Sir SuziQ played the video, so I only heard it, and at first I thought it was Hillary speaking! Both of them have that flat, condescending, monotone, speech pattern!

With regards to Ms. Garafelo's remarks about taking pride in watching naked gays and flag burning, well, she'll have an ETERNITY to look at fires burning and the like!

Some people actually don't like the opposite sex, and I don't just mean in a sexual way. I doubt if she looked at the men! She obviously doesn't like herself.

Can you believe that some people have been deprived of such a classic movie?

It IS a fun movie!! I think that was Sean Astin's major motion picture debut! He was SO cute, and still is!!

One of the benefits of talking from behind the monitor is we cannot see the offending poster, which enables our imaginations freely to assume (correctly or not) that idiotic posts originate in young and immature minds that want only some good instruction -- and the benefit of time and difficult circumstances -- to become seasoned, mature reasoners.

When someone doesn't see right from wrong today, the seeds you plant now will, in time, have their opportunity to bring forth a mighty harvest for good. So keep up the good fight. It didn't look for a very long time as if any of the Allies' efforts were crushing Hitler. But where is the Third Reich now? =)

Point well taken, Gretchen. There may be seeds of wisdom planted even if it doesn't seem to have any immediate effect, and perhaps the Bush-haters will also end up in the .....what was that the President said in the '02 SOTU? the ash heap of failed totalitarianism? :o)

And another point is that there are lurkers reading what is said. When common sense, logic and truth are written in response to mindless insults, the readers can easily discern who is right, and where the truth lies.

(Unfortunately, I sometimes respond with insults myself.......but mine are at least clever. :o)

see how much help he will be able to get so that we can keep him in his home. as long as possible...

My heart breaks for you Ms. B, but if you could find someone who could 'live-in', that would be awesome. It may be different for a man, but we had a woman come live with my mother when she got to the point where it was not possible for her to be alone. She didn't like it, but we told her it was that or a nursing home, so she accepted it. We didn't want to put her in a nursing home, but she would not live with any of us, and the live-in companion was the only option.

A friend of my older sister's had just gone through a divorce after 25 yrs. of marriage and had nowhere to go because she let her husband have the house because there were two teenage children still at home. She was an absolute angel, and lived with Mama from the fall of 1998 until last October. Mama developed pnuemonia, then when it became clear that she needed more day to day nursing help than Mary could provide, we finally put her in a nursing home, but told her it was a clinic to help her get over her sickness and some bedsores. Since she doesn't remember how long she's been there, it hasn't been a problem. She doesn't have any short term memory now, but she still remembers family members. We put her in a place that is very near to my hometown. She had been living a couple of hours away at our fishing camp since my Daddy died in 1981. Now, her brothers and sisters, as well as my siblings can visit her often. A good friend of mine from college lives nearby, and he'll drop in several times a week, on his way to or from work. Mama still remembers him, too!

We put off the nursing home as long as we could, but when it became clear that she didn't even consider the fishing camp 'home' anymore, we knew it didn't matter where she was, she'd always want to be going home. She has actually done well at this place. The nurses get all those who are not ambulatory up into wheelchairs every day and roll them down to the Nurses's station to gather and chat, then down to the Common Room to continue visiting. Mama was always a very social creature, so she's enjoying being with other folks now. She wanted to stay away from people for the first few years after she was diagnosed for fear of not saying the right things, or forgetting something she felt she should have remembered while with other folks. So she was pretty much a hermit when it came to friends, though Mary would take her out to the store or the mall to get her out of the house and for some mental stimulation. But she's mentally past that now, and into a less inhibited phase which is good.

Best of luck finding a good situation for your Dad. I'll keep your family in my prayers.

Hi SuziQ,

Thanks so much for writing to me..

Today went so very well. I am so happy!

The visiting nurse was an angel, and Dad has great insurance, so we can get him all kinds of help..and he was so receptive to it, we also had him tell us what HE would like done, and after a bit, he warmed to the idea, and is all for it..as I explained to him that I could spend quality time with him, instead of cleaning the house, and doing laundry and so on.. Thanks so much for your help and support, it means a great deal to me...

Thanks so very much...

Today went really well, and I am very encouraged, not only by Dads reaction, which was so very positive, but by the sweet Freepers who have written to me, with love and prayers and encouragement..

You guys are the best..I took your advice, and Mikes too, and held my Dads hand, looked him in the eye, (Mikes advice), and told him I was doing this out of love (from your story, that sometimes they cannot see that).. and he put his hand over mine and said, "I know, Bebe" (that is from our Franco roots, his going back to what he called me as a child)

Really, you have touched me so much..

Love and thanks for your help and prayers

Ms.B
