Ya know....I'm no 'big' PETA fan...but our prisoners do have way too many priveleges. Not too sure I'm against this idea :)

Man are those PETA creeps asking for trouble....

They are going to be hunted down when all those violent meat eating crims are released....

Any idea on the size of the US jail population versus the PETA numbers..

I bet at least 10 to 1

For once I agree with PETA! Let them eat peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and wash it down with a nice cold cup of water.

* reduce recidivism by providing a deterrent to convicts who are so addicted to meat, they’ll go straight just to avoid having to eat healthy "jailhouse" food

I believe we have an amendment that covers "cruel and unusual punishment." This policy would never withstand a court challange.

Look, I despise PETA. I think they are an insidious bunch of terorists plotting to drive the human race into extinction and they should be treated the same as Al-Qaeda is now. So I am very suspicious of PETA since they are nothing but anti-human communists and deserve nothing in my book.

Thank you.

I am writing on behalf of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals’ (PETA) more than 750,000 members ?

That's 50 homo-sap-iens plus 749,950 assorted 'Rats.

On Friday a inmate from Pelican State prison was having a hearing in Crescent City Ca on why he shouldn't be allowed to mix with the other inmates. As he was being led into the court room he slipped his irons and stabbed his defense attorney in the chest with a icepick. Something metal in the lawyers pocket deflected the weapon. STRIKE THREE...

Vegetarian food may discourage some hopelessly meat-addicted convicts from reoffending. Admittedly, there are probably some inmates who will miss eating flesh, maybe because they see it as "comfort food" or maybe because they’re addicted to the fat or the various chemical, hormone, pesticide, and antibiotic residues in meat. However, as you know, it’s prison and not Club Med. If inmates dislike going without meat strongly enough, a program like this could further decrease recidivism.

THIS IS GREAT STUFF! Feed convicts Tofu. That alone would keep me out of prison...

Doug Anglen, the director of food service of Victor Valley, has observed, "There is a noticeable difference in the personalities of the vegetarian inmates. They smile more, are fully racially integrated, attend religious classes and anger management classes eagerly. Within 10 days, the vegan inmates express improvement in how they feel."

Prisoners who go along with the program just happen to be better behaved. What a shock </sarcasm>

Whether or not they eat meat has nothing to do with it.

For once they actually make a decent point .... of course they need to pass out vitamins to prevent their bones from becoming brittle resulting from a vegan diet.
