The speech given by the Ambassador from the Marshall Islands at the UN this past week brought a tear to me eye after all the speeches that had been made against the US.

He started out by saying the Marshall Islands proudly stood with the United States. He went on to say what it was like to be a Country that was attacked and taken over and then liberated by the United States.

He said they were small but were standing proudly with the United States, provided soldiers in our military, and were our friend!

Contrary to the conventional, liberal-dominated press in American and Europe, the United States does not stand alone and in fact, there is solid backing for this regime change in Iraq. It's going to happen.

During the 1990-91 Persian Gulf War, we were treated to the same "peace" demonstrations by the Marxist left. During the buildup of Desert Shield, hundreds of long-haired freaks camped in front of the White House pounding drums and playing their flutes. Many don't remember that but it happened. We were told that we were getting into another Vietnam quagmire and that we were not going to be able to defeat the "third largest army in the world" without sustaining massive casualties.

As soon as the war got underway, these "demonstrators" dried up and blew away. As they will this time as well.

Iraq went from being the third largest army in the world, to being the 2nd largest army in Iraq in less than 100 hours.

"I fear that all we have done is awakened a sleeping giant>"

On 9/11 I wondered who on earth would be so dumb to do that, and thought of "The Sleeping Giant" statement. I then realized that the years with Clinton fooled them into thinking the whole US was weak. They never counted on facing a Bush.

What I'm going to enjoy is, after the war, when we've accomplished what we intended with little allied loss of life, THEN what are the lefties going to whine about?

Have you forgotten so soon? When Afghanistan turned out to be a walk in the park, they began circulating lies about "5,000 civilians killed," etc.

There was no such number, no way such a number could be PROVED, but the lie persisted. It even turned out that it was based on estimates from numbers given by the Taliban propaganda, but that didn't matter; the press reported it as a legitimate number.

They will claim tens of thousands of Iraqis killed, little children ripped apart by bombs, etc.

It won't matter what the facts are. The agenda is all.

I always thought this was funny too.

One guy told me, when I pointed out the Afghans fighting next to us in Afghanistan, that it didn't count because "they weren't Arabs."

So it goes.

Why are you guys so surprised?

They sent their navy about a week ago. Their small naval vessels and their troops will be protecting Kuwait to free us up to go into Iraq.

If Saddam would invade Kuwait, he'd go after any of the Emirates if he could. And they have other aggressive neighbors too who would love to seize their oil.

So, it would be surprising to me if they weren't helping us.

The reporting on them has been sparse but I think it's a lot like the eastern Europeans. This is kind of a defining moment for a lot of these little countries. They're remaking themselves at the start of the 21st century. They're sick of living in fear of their neighbors and a lot of them have known oppression. They look to us to be their protectors. And they're willing to be good neighbors and to help us in return.

There have been some good articles on how the push to democratize the Middle East is coming from them and the Saudis and Syrians.

Did we promise them France when it's all over? If we didn't... let's!

Why, don't you want to keep them on our side?

DeuceTraveler made the following very interesting observation in another thread (quoted maroon in my response):

Small countries in the Arab world, like Bahrain and Qatar, see America not as a bully, but as a political and economic protector from their more powerful neighbors such as Saudi Arabia, Iraq, and Iran. This parallels the same situation occuring in Europe. (emphasis added)

Ahhh. The parallel had not occured to me. Very insightful generalization. Some folks in The Ivory Coast have been feeling the same way lately:

Leave it to the frogs to resort to unilateral military force, and then use it to impose appeasement.

Do you remember President Bush's inauguration speech when he said "There is an angel in the whirlwind who directs this storm"? We are finding out just who our true friends are in all of this. I don't know about you but I will never forget this.

I wonder which country will be next?

It was easier identifying allies during WW II. Mainly it was Fascist vs ComIntern vs Democracy. Who knows what it is these days.
