Hutchison Whampoa Ltd. and Singapore Technology Telemedia Pte Ltd., had originally bid $750 million on Global. Global turned down that bid in hopes of a higher bidder. None came near that amount. When Global finally came back to Hutchison Whampoa Ltd. and Singapore Technology Telemedia Pte Ltd. they then agreed to pay $250 million -- $125 million each.

Just some background.

I would block this if I had a say. Our infrastructure shouldn't be for sale to others that don't have our personal interests at heart.

I agree that this deal should not go through. But what I'm wondering is why the US Gov. doesn't just pay the paltry $250 million for it. If national security is at issue, that's a drop in the bucket.
