All US citizens who oppose a war against Iraq are called to walk in the footsteps of Gandhi and Martin Luther King by joining a national strike for peace on Friday, February 28th.
In the tradition of nonviolent direct action, those who seek peace will on that day refuse to collaborate with our government's plan to launch a war for oil against a country that is already devastated by twelve years of US-led bombing and sanctions, a country in which at least a million innocent civilians have died at our hands, and a country that has no way to defend itself.
On February 28th we will instead bring business-as-usual to a halt in every town and city all over this nation. On that day our work will be peacemaking. We will not do our usual jobs and we will not buy anything, including gas.
In doing this we put our government leaders on notice
* that they do not have our consent to inflict yet more suffering and death on the people of Iraq.
* that we are not willing to exchange young American lives for the oil reserves that lie beneath Iraqi soil.
* that we see through their fear-mongering, their disinformation, and their news control.
* that they can expect widespread active resistance to any war they choose to launch with such callous disregard for the human cost.

On strike day February 28th, carry out group peacemaking activities of your own design. Here are some suggestions: .... do street theater; meditate for peace, then play music, dance, and generally kick up your heels for peace!
Samba for Saddam! Hootenanny for Hussein!
Just kidding! They have nothing to fear from us because we're not evil tyrants.
Which is why pacifism is inherently anti-freedom--because it doesn't hurt dictators, it only hurts democracies.
So let's get Bush's attention in a way he can't ignore. Join us for a ONE-DAY NATIONWIDE STRIKE, Friday, February 28. If the administration won't pay attention to us, let's take the fight to the business community and let them tell Bush to stand down. Don't go to work, don't buy gas or even start your car. Stay out of stores and restaurants. DON'T SPEND A DIME. Hit them in their wallets and show them we mean business.
If you are a doctor, fireman, policeman etc., of course you can't withhold your services. But you can participate by keeping your money in your pocket. Bring in lunch, stay out of stores, walk or bicycle to work if you can. Bush doesn't listen to us, but he WILL listen to the business community. Let's give them something to talk about. link to moronic ranting
I'm going to steal that one.
They WISH they could walk in his footsteps, let alone his shadow. He'd chew them up and spit them out just for their utter stupidity. Gandhi never 'walked' for peace against the nations who were eradicating the last beast of the earth (Hitler). They use names of people, merely feigning some kind of understanding of who they really were. These phony-bolognas would high-tail it out faster than the Roadrunner could, if anyone threw a freaking spit-wad at them. Gandhi was *not* a wimp, contrary to the depiction that some like to advertise about him. These people are, no doubt, just auditioning for the new series, "As The Stomach Turns."
