the Trans-Asian Axis

Interesting. What is your opinion of the proposal made by Walter Russell Meade for the U.S. to buy Siberia? Will it strengthen our position versus the Chinese, or will it make an eventual conflict with them deadlier?

If indeed we could negotiate another purchase ala Alaska, then that would be great. However, keep in mind that both the Russians and the Chinese have, if anything, invested more into Siberia during the past 10 years than any time previously. Pipelines, roads, rails all crossing the border. I would especially expect the Chinese to do everything they could to prevent the US from strategically inserting ourselves between China and European Russia. Unfortunately, the most likely way we'd ever thusly insert ourselves would be via many bloody battles leading to our forcible occupation of the area at the end of an unimaginably great war. As for the probability of such an outcome, well that is a matter for debate. Many things would have to go in favor of the West (probably the key one, having India as a solid ally) for any such thing to occur.
