Serbian Orthodox suffer
At least 110 Serb Christian sites (churches, monasteries, graveyards etc.) have been damaged or destroyed in Kosovo since the United Nations took control in June 1999.
Most recently, a church building in the village of Ljubovo was completely destroyed by an explosion in the early hours of 17 November last.
A second explosion damaged another church in the town of Djurakovac. The bombings came on the eve of a visit to Kosovo by UN General Secretary Kofi Annan.
Church leaders and Orthodox worshippers also face violence and hostility from ethnic Albanians, especially where UN checkpoints in the vicinity of churches have been withdrawn in recent months.
Ethnic Albanian Muslim extremists regard churches as symbols of Serbian domination and see them as legitimate targets.
What could we do to get the message/pictures out.
Million dollar question. I wish I knew. The Serbs never had the unlimited PR budget that the KLA/ALBANIANmuslims had and most Americans never cared what happened to the Serbs from the Nato bombings. You didn't have all the 'peacenik' (hypocrit) crowds that you have now. The Serbs always thought the thruth would come out.
What can you do..........start at your local churches. Show them these pictures and write your congressmen and express your outrage.
Thanks for your concern. You just inspired me to write another letter campaign of my own. Your thoughts are appreciated by this Serbian American Christian. Thank you.
Mad, that po's me as well. Some of chumps protesting about Iraq were all for bombing Serb civilians.
ltm, this non-Serb non-Christian also appreciates anything you can do and suggest to let others know the evil consequences of the Kosovo war and occupation. All traces of a millenium-old civilization are being erased in Kosovo, along with the flesh and blood Serbs who once lived there. There's not a peep of protest from the loudmouth "humanitarians", so it's going to be up to the decency of ordinary Americans to stop it.
Tamo, The SUC is pretty lame for such purposes; its acronym is appropriate. It's going to take a well-organized and financed group to turn things around. And, it can't be a "Serbian" organization -- it will require "vlachs" as the facemen.
The way to get credibility and access is through some targeted campaign contributions, just as the other side's been doing all along. Dennis Prager in California might be the test case of a candidate to back for these purposes.
Waaaah. This is like complaining that German protestants in Gdansk are complaining that they are being mistreated by Polish nationals.
I personally witnessed a building in Bosnia where the Serbian "orthodox Christian" Nazis--and this is PRECISELY what they were--crammed 1200 men from Srebrenica into what was essentially a large barn, where they were machinegunned to death en masse in a scene right out of WW2. Five years later, the building, unrepaired, still riddled with bulletholes from the inside out, was covered with black mold, of a species known to feast on human flesh. I have pictures of the massacre site if you don't believe me.
The UN report on Srebrenica had this to say on the place I witnessed:
Report of the [UN] Secretary-General pursuant to General Assembly resolution 53/35
The fall of Srebrenica
section 347, pp. 79-80
. . . Groups of men further back in the column began to surrender to the BSA in large numbers at this time, in two main areas: the first group surrendered in the Sandici meadow, west of Kravica; the second just north of Nova Kasaba near the football field. Large numbers of both groups that had surrendered were taken to Bratunac. Several hundred [estimated 800-1200-HABV] were not taken to Bratunac, however. They appear instead to have been packed into an agricultural warehouse in Kravica and killed by small arms fire and grenades. Visiting the Kravica warehouse several months later, United Nations personnel were able to see hair, blood and human tissue caked to the inside walls of this building. The inside walls, floor and ceiling were also marked by the impacts of gunshots and explosions. One section of the wall had also been knocked down, apparently to facilitate the process of loading the remains of bodies into waiting vehicles. A smaller group, of approximately 70 individuals, appears to have been taken to a meadow near Kravica and shot along the river bank. None of this was known to outsiders at the time, until one of the survivors of the Kravica massacres, who had managed to hide under a pile of dead bodies for roughly nine hours, later escaped and told members of the media and international organizations what he had witnessed. The Tribunal was able to corroborate the account through forensic evidence obtained during exhumations in 1996.
Yes, this is Bosnia, not Kosovo, but the actors--Serb nationalist fanatics--were the same.
Sure, Serbian national shrines and so on have been damaged. That's what happens to genocidal nations when they try to commit genocide and fail.
Only the ignorant or the hopelessly bigoted have any sympathy for what the Serbs did, what they became, under Milosevic.
Sending us into Bosnia and Kosovo were the only, THE ONLY, things that the sink emperor did right in eight years.
