The Thirties revisited
Jewish World Review ^ | 2-21-03 | Paul Greenberg

History keeps coming back, sometimes like a bad dinner. In case you missed the Thirties, you could experience it again watching the Security Council at the United Nations, which begins to bear an uncanny resemblance to the late League of Nations.

Listening to the calm, neutral, simultaneous translation of the Security Council's proceedings over calm, neutral, simultaneous NPR, one was struck by how exactly this attempt to disarm Iraq paralleled the world's efforts in the 1920s to make Germany disarm -- in compliance with that defeated country's obligations under the Versailles Treaty.

Both regimes swore they were complying. And both were engaged in purely a paper exercise. An old joke, circa 1930: A German who works in a perambulator factory decides to sneak out the parts one by one so he can build his own baby buggy at home, but every time he puts all the parts together, all he gets is a machine gun.

It's deja vu all over again. Too bad they don't teach real world history to school children or college kids anymore. They could avoid being so ignorant at those sedition rallies in tacit support of Saddam.

What was the saying about those who ignore history being doomed to repeat it? I guess the "Rise and Fall of the Third Reich" would be too long and it doesn't have any pictures..........

The defunct League of Nations is a perfect comparison to the UN today. Saddam, formerly a member of Hitler's Nazi party, is perfectly characterized by comparing him to Hitler. 'Course comparing him to Stalin would also be accurate and truthful, though IMO not quite as acurate as the comparison to Hitler.

I don't see why everybody gets so mad about us telling the truth. I guess the truth hurts...their agenda.

Great editorial. BUMP!!

.....And the words are too big. Even if they weren't, they would be incomprehensible to people brainwashed into believing that 'Good' and 'Evil' are always relative terms.

I would have called it, university re-visited. What goes on at the U.N., goes on every day at every federally-funded university in the U.S.A.

Many boast of ending any support for the U.N., but to end the "process of obsfucation," we ought to examine cutting it off at the valve.

The U.N.'s "workforce" is made up of, you guessed it, the product of the very same federally-funded universities. The U.N. just happens to be one of the places where you get to see it in action ... if you can call it action.

FWIW From: Full U.S. control planned for Iraq

Under a decision finalized last week, Iraqi government officials would be subjected to “de-Baathification,” a reference to Hussein’s ruling Baath Party, under a program that borrows from the “de-Nazification” program established in Germany after World War II.

Here's a website on the history of the League of Nations - I looked it up last week because I didn't know exactly what had happened to them - whether they had officially disbanded, been overrun in the war, or everybody just stopped showing up.

Todays' headlines/events are a real parrallel to the mid to late thirties.

Saddam and the whole of radical Islam represent Nazi Germany in that comparison ... N. Korea and really the mainland Chinese IMHO represent the Japanese Empire.

I believe we are headed for a confrontation/conflagration that will involve that entire Axis against the free world.

My series, Dragon's Fury is about exactly this ... and the dangers that current economic, immigration, miltary budgeting and political policies pose in relation to that possibility.

Great post.

I have been comparing Soddomite and his thugs with Fascist Germany for over a year. In fact I had a great graphic art piece that showed this. I was asked not to show it any more. So now, I just use words.

I think that Saddam is more comparable to a Hitler who had been confronted and thrown back inside his borders in the 30s, who then went on to design and build V-2s, nerve gas, concentration camps etc. And work very hard on enriching uranium.

Saddam taken alone ... yes. Radical Islam as a whole ... another matter. We are in the process of confronting them ... but not as direct and as forthright as we should IMHO.

China, we are continuing to pour resource into hand over fist, even as they build the infrastructure and acquire and develop weapons systems they will use against us.

Hi Dave, read Jeff Head's books, they're very appropriate for our times and lively reading, too!

Hi, Freeper Friend. I hope that we are able to deal with the China/N Korea axis at a later time, but we'll do whatever it takes. Do you still believe the war with China timeframe is soon, as in your great books?

I also wish that your ideas of citizen groups trained to guard and watch infrastructure targets was being utilized by the Homeland Security professionals. Our citizenry has a lot to offer in this regard, and it would be all volunteer. And, it's more effective than duct tape. How can we make this happen?

I believe the current time frame is economically, technlogically and logistically premature for them ... but if too good an opportunity presents itself, they might be tempted to go sooner rather than later.

I do believe they are planning their own hegonomy in Asia and that those plans will require us to be sidelined in the region.

That's really a big part of what Drago's Fury is all about.

Volume III is about 3-4 weeks away.

BTW, I know of no way to get such a program implemented other than encouraging local county officials to adopt such a plan in increasing numbers (we need some good Freeper Sheriff's) and then having it grow to a point that a State somewhere takes it on.

I hope that type of thing occurs.

I suppose if someone had Bush's or Ridge's ear that it could happen quicker. Let's pray someone does and that they are moved to consider and accept such a plan.
