Boycott Questions:
February 19, 2003 (CSN) -- Readers of CSN news have an excellent opportunity today to pose questions directly to CSN's boycott spokesman, David Chu. Chu will be the guest on the Chuck Morse show, which can be heard on the Internet, at 5:00p.m. EST today. The topic will be China, and the boycott of Made in China products. Past shows with David Chu have been known to include fiery invective, directed at China's ruling Communist Party regime. As a hardline anti-communist, Chu brooks no Maoism; and, as a Chinese (native of Shanghai) and a human rights campaigner with the China Support Network, Chu is a specialist with the grizzly picture of the human rights abuses of China's regime. Mr. Chu has become a champion of the Boycott Made in China campaign, an effort taking place around the world to persuade grass roots shoppers to say "no thank you" to China by putting down goods and products that are 'Made in China.' "This is the big one," comments John Kusumi, CSN's executive director. "In years past, there were boycott efforts that fizzled because they were isolated. Now, the cause has made up its mind, to a point where we've got this going, worldwide." The Boycott Made in China campaign is being co-sponsored by groups related to two causes: "Free China," and "Free Tibet." The common target of these two causes is the central government of China, which took over Tibet when communists swept to power in 1949. Tibet has its own litany of human rights abuses and atrocities, having had 1/3rd of its population killed by the Communist Chinese. The Boycott is part of the common hope of these two causes, to engender a non-violent regime change in China. "There are giants of the past who are no longer living. Jefferson, Gandhi, and King inspire this movement; we feel that if they were alive today, they would endorse this boycott action against China," says Kusumi, noting that Gandhi used similar actions to achieve the non-violent overthrow of British rule in India. Mr. Chu has been well received on talk shows across the U.S.. Chu handles questions from the profound (What are national security implications of the U.S. trade deficit with China?) to the mundane (Where can I find a DVD player that is not Made in China?) You are invited to ask any questions related to this campaign of David Chu; this show is Wednesday, February 19, 2003, from 5-6p.m. Eastern. It can be heard at this internet link: |
Published by the China Support Network (CSN). Begun by grass roots Americans in 1989, CSN represents Americans who were "on the side" of the students in Tiananmen Square -- standing for democratic reform, human rights, and freedom in China. Turn in and hear why America must boycott all products with the label "Made in China".
