CINCINNATI -- What can you do to protect yourself against terrorism?
In Cincinnati Wednesday, Homeland Security Secretary Tom Ridge will unveil a "Ready Campaign" to advise people on various steps they can take. (Ready.gov)
Ridge has sought to assure Americans that the war on terrorism will be won by professionals, while adding that there are things citizens can do to protect themselves. The agency announced Monday that Ridge will outline the campaign at the offices of the Cincinnati chapter of the American Red Cross.
Ridge said last week that he would announce Ready Campaign this week.
"While your government is doing everything it can to prevent an attack, citizens also should know what to do because, in the end, being prepared, knowing what to do can and will save lives," he said.
The guidelines of the Ready Campaign include developing a communications plan so they can reach each other in an emergency. They're also urged to make an emergency kit with flashlights, batteries, water and other necessities, and to stay alert on a day-to-day basis.
"What we're all interested in doing is getting good, solid information out to the public about preparing yourself, preparing your company, preparing your school and just taking care of your family," Red Cross spokesman Gary Miller said.
Ridge resigned as governor of Pennsylvania to become the first secretary of the Homeland Security Department, which President George W. Bush created after the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Ridge raised the nation's terrorist threat index to orange, the second-highest level in the five-step, color-coded system, from yellow on Feb. 7.

Will be won by "professionals" . . . yea, right Tom, they have been doing a bang up job so far, perhaps we mear "citizens" should tell them to continue doing the great job they have so far, it should keep them out of the way.
"there are things citizens can do to protect themselves." From Tom and the boyz or from terrorists? Seems to me (after reading the text of new "laws" that some "professionals" are trying to get enacted) there might not be much difference except in the method of attack.

Good, now let the do nothing dims trash this.
Its about time "government" let it be know, what each individual needs to do to look out for themselves.
This will take some air out of Hillary's campaign to get federal money out to her vote buyers, for the next election. (Dim - mayors/governors/union leadership)

I'm starting to be a little annoyed by the constant drivel that comes from the Homeland Security Department.
The other day they said you can protect from a Bio-Chem attack by covering your face with a wet towel and wrapping your house in duct tape and plastic, while they make elaborate plans to protect people who "matter".
I thought all Americans mattered.
Its time for a good old fashioned American Civil Defense plan that covers everyone, not just the Beltway Elite, so we can confront these long term threats.
They aggravate me.

Look at it from another point of view.
To be prepared for a flood means get to higher ground, you have some warning the water is rising.
How can "government" prepare a whole country for the unknown? There are so many possible types of attacks that it is impossible to cover all bases.
They may make elaborate plans to protect people who "matters", but there is no guarantee that these people who "matter" will be where they can get to that protection.
Personally, I am glad that the government is willing to say, in writing what kinds of things to be aware of.
There is another side to this, Hillary and her liars, decided last late/December-early/January to use Homeland Security funding against President Bush, demanding more money be given to the mayors/governors. (you know get out the vote)
All the while Hillary has been saying that President Bush is not doing enough to protect this country, the minority leaders, with firemen, (UNION) boys held a press conference to say they needed federal firemen.
Americans need to wake up and realize that they are the best and first line of protecting themselves, and that government cannot do it all.

I'll take the Homeland Security serious when they lock down the borders, and expel all apprehended illegals and muslim nationals -- until then, all else is window-dressing.
