[history]
Bidders at this weekend's Mercy High School auction will once again be able to vie for lunch with Gov. Jennifer Granholm after school officials reversed an earlier decision to take the item off the auction block.
Administrators at the Farmington Hills girls' college preparatory school met Sunday. The reversal comes after board of trustees member Agnes Mansour gave her resignation last Wednesday because she opposed the decision to eliminate lunch with Granholm.

Mercy High School Reinstates Granholm Auction Item; Catholics Call Cardinal Maida to Halt Honor of Pro-Abortion Politician
Farmington Hills, MI Catholics in Michigan are outraged that Mercy High School today reversed its policy by reinstating their honor of Governor Jennifer Granholm after having revoked it last week due to Granholms abortion advocacy. Rosemarie Denton, alumnus of Mercy and member of the Stop Granholm Church and Truth Project, is calling Cardinal Maida to cancel the Lunch with Governor Granholm item in Mercys upcoming auction.
The Cardinal should stop this scandal. He has clearly proclaimed the Churchs teaching, but Mercy prefers public opinion to respect for preborn children who Granholm seeks to kill, exclaimed Denton.
Dr. Monica Migliorino-Miller, director of the Stop Granholm Church and Truth Project, criticized Mercys flip-flop, Mercy president Sr. Doelker should not be persuaded by the pro-abortion Detroit Free Press and ex-nun Agnes Mansour, a longtime abortion radical. We hope Cardinal Maida will take a courageous stand.
Miller promised that Catholics would continue to protest Mercys decision, and that tolerance should not lead Mercy to honor Granholm, A Catholic school should not champion just any women. Racist women shouldnt be honored and neither should pro-abortion politicians, because they commit grave injustice and flaunt Church teaching.
Denton described her disgust at Mercys flip-flop, Granholm isnt rejecting a peripheral or unclear Church teaching abortion is murder and the Church demands that Catholic politicians protect preborn children. California Governor Gray Daviss bishop recently discouraged him from receiving communion, the most holy Catholic sacrament, because he implements pro-abortion policy. Cardinal Maida and Bishop Mengeling should do the same.

Mansour is a fascinating character. The fact that she was a trustee of this school shows more about its "values" than the Granholm invitation. See
here.

The fact that she was a trustee of this school shows more about its "values" than the Granholm invitationThe other thing about former Sister Mansour's dilemma 20 years ago was that it wasn't that difficult.
The Church did not say "a Catholic nun cannot be director of a Department that finances abortions". They said "if you state your disagreement with that policy, then there is no problem with you being director". The director of the department does not dictate policy, the Governor and Legislature do.
Mansour explicitly stated that she SUPPORTED Medicaid abortions. Somehow because rich people were able to have abortions it was more objectionable to deny taxpayer funding to abortions for poorer people than it was to force taxpayers to finance abortions.
The reason she left the sisterhood was because she refused to even make a basic statement in opposition to taxpayer money paying for elective procedures (btw, voters ended Medicaid funded abortions in Michigan in a 1988 referendum, so it's now a moot issue).
Mansour was far left anyway; long after she left office she issued tons of warnings in the early 90's against putting in work requirements for welfare recipients. How we'd have all these homeless people and children starving and so forth.
The AFDC caseload dropped from 200,000 to about 70,000. No homelessness, no starvation, many more people working, making more money than they would have from their welfare check. She was wrong on that and she's wrong on Granholm.

{``Critical thinking is at the core of our curriculum as a Catholic school. We teach critical thinking in an atmosphere that is compassionate and supportive of diversity,'' the statement said. }
I doubt Mercy officials will be so tolerate of protestors with graphic abortion photos. Liberal Catholics teach kids to critically think about conservative principles, yet they brainwash children's minds with left-wing hogwash. Attending a Catholic school is not much different from public school. This is why we have Catholics like the Legally Blonde Governess. The Catholic Church is a role model of moral cowardice.

Action: Protest of the actual auction - with graphic abortion photos -
I Don't like Jenny, I don't support abortion but these pictures are digusting. Some clown drove up and down Woodward during the "Woodward Dream Cruise" with a motorhome covered with these pictures. I, like thousands of others were just showing off our hotrods and having fun, I just wasn't in the mood for religious/political opinions to be put in my face.

Well, the babies are NEVER in the mood to be butchered, either.
I understand that it is discomforting.
It is meant to be.
No one with a conscience should rest at ease until the slaughter ends.
I trust you have a conscience. GLAD it was pricked.

I begin my letter with a quotation:
Conference of Catholic Bishops regarding abortion: "No public official, especially one claiming to be a faithful and serious Catholic, can responsibly advocate for or actively support direct attacks on innocent human life."
This is the heart of the matter. Mercy is a Catholic High School. That presupposes that the teachings of the Holy See directly and primarily influence your policies and daily decision-making processes.
I consider it a grave mistake to invite Governor Granholm to contribute to the fund-raising activities of Mercy High School. She is a self-proclaimed supporter of Roe V. Wade and an active recipient of campaign funds from EMILY's list, an organization that does not endow political candidates with funds unless they support their beliefs on abortion unconditionally, including those that allow abortion on demand and partial birth abortions.
By allowing her to participate in your fundraising auction, you are in direct violation of the most fundamental Truths of the Church, which you claim to obey. You stand in defiance of the Church and Its founder, Our Lord Jesus Christ. This is a betrayal of His own act of Mercy of allowing Him to be crucified so that we might be redeemed. In my opinion, this action is a Mortal Sin, in direct violation of the Sixth Commandment, Thou Shalt Not Kill.
"Diversity," "Critical Thinking," "Tolerance," and some of the other expressions that you have used officially to defend your reasoning in reversing your original decision to not allow Governor Granholm's participation do not apply to issues such as abortion. There is no "other side" to this issue. Abortion is murder of innocent life. The Catholic Church opposes abortion without exception. As a Catholic High School, you are obligated to do the same.
This may be harsh, but I believe it true: In accepting the donation generated from this auction item, your school is accepting blood money, as well as communicating to your student body that abortion is acceptable -- even desirable. In fact, it is ironic that she would very likely not have been invited at all had she not been elected Governor. And, without her pro-abortion beliefs, she wouldn't be Governor.
I urge you to reconsider. To stand for Truth instead of the prevailing opinion of your student body and its parents. To be Catholic in action as well as name. Imagine if our Lord, or all the martyred saints, had acted they way they wished rather than the way they were expected to by God. It's not the popular choice to refuse the offer of a State Governor willing to help substantially contribute to financially supporting Mercy High school. But it is the right choice.
My daughter was recently accepted as a member of the class of 2007 at Mercy. We are going to re-evaluate her choice of school based on your decision.
I'll also end my letter with a quotation:
"I am pleased to receive the endorsement from One Hundred Women (a pro-abortion group) because they support equal opportunity for women and the need to protect a woman's right to privacy concerning reproductive choice." Jennifer Granholm, June 17, 2002.

Prayer Vigil called against
Mercy-less auction
Feb. 21, 2003
Urgent! Urgent! Urgent!
From: Monica Migliorino Miller, Ph.D., Director
Friends,
Mercy High School in Farmington Hills has chosen to prefer abortion to Cardinal Maida and the Church's teaching. They caved in to abortion enthusiast Jennifer Granholm and ex-nun Agnes Mansour (who left her order rather than conform to the Church's pro-life teaching) in spite of Cardinal Maida's request last week that they remove Granholm from their auction.
Many Mercy alumni, parents, and donors are upset and are pulling their funding from Mercy, but the media says that only a fringe group of intolerant extremist Catholics oppose Granholm at Mercy.
You can prove them wrong by standing in prayer with hundreds of area Catholics outside of Mercy's auction THIS SATURDAY!!!
A prayer vigil will occur from 5-7 on Saturday, this Saturday, February 22nd, outside Mercy High School, at the Northeast corner of 11 Mile Road and Middlebelt in Farmington Hills. See the directions below.
The organizers are arranging the entire prayer schedule and all the logistics - all you have to do is show up dressed warmly. The event will be peaceful, legal, and respectful, but firm in defending Church teaching at Catholic educational institutions.
Mom's and daughters should especially consider participating. Young ladies and gentlemen from Mercy and other Catholic schools...Ladywood, Marian, Regina, Notre Dame Prep, Gabriel Richard, etc., should wear their letter jackets and call Mercy to account for their preferring abortion advocates to Cardinal Maida. Teens who are home schooled are encouraged to come as well. Non-Catholic brothers and sisters and all people of good will should join this important event to support the sanctity of human life.
Directions: 696 to Orchard Lake Road Exit. Turn (South) on Orchard Lake Road. Turn Left (West) on 11 Mile Road, and travel West for one mile to Middlebelt.
Don't park at Mercy! Park nearby wherever you can find a spot.
When: Feb. 22, 2003, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM
Place: Mercy High School
29300 Eleven Mile Road
Farmington Hills, Michigan
Please spread the word! And we'll see you there!

Director of Stop Granholm Church and Truth Project
