Pictures from the 2/15/2003 Washington State "Support Our Troops" Rally in Tacoma, WA

Click on the link for some photos returned in the wife's $10 digital camera. I am told between 1200 and 1500 people turned out, covering three freeway overpasses near the military bases -- and the respnse was excellent, with ever-honking horns and waves... A friend driving through the area, headed to OR, reported a pathetic-looking demonstration on a fourth freeway overpass of three or for anti-war protesters.

Wahoo!!! My husband and I were the Montana representatives. Everyone we met at the rally were very friendly and we had a wonderful time. It was way cool to see all the little kids in the cars waving and smiling at us. Thank you Washington State for letting us meet the best of your citizens.

Blue Star Service Banners Created in 1917, Blue Star Service Banners were a common site during WWI and WWII. The banner is displayed to show that a family member is currently serving in the Armed Forces. I have one currently flying on my door. The more stars, the more family members serving.

Gold Star Service Banner indicates a family member was killed while serving in the Armed Forces.

Hope this helps explain.

Tea.

Thank you Eala! I was there on Saturday as well as Elcie30, who saw me but couldn't get to me in time to say hi. Hundreds (or dozens (50)as the media would tell it) came to rally in support for our troops. Horns were honking, hands waving madly from mototrists passing beneath our freeway overpass. Occasionally I would see 2 people sitting in front with 4 hands waving wildly. Hey! Whose driving that vehicle? LOL About 80% of the cars on the freeway honked, waved, or gave thumbs up signs. Truckers were amazing.

On the overpass above, I am proud to say we had held up traffic. :) In a good way! There were so many people with flags and banners and signs, that the military people coming from the base wanted to get a good look. They honked their horns until I thought they'd break! LOL Pictures were taken, and some cars passed by several times they were enjoying it so much. Thousands of people were touched by this rally - us included. :) It was powerful. At first I couldn't stand in one place because there were so many friends to see and things to experience. At one point I hiked down the hillside off the side of the freeway and led some of the flags wavers above in an orchestrated "wave." It was a lot of fun and beautiful too. Of course I scampered back up onto the hill when the friendly security guy came. :)

The Vietnamese arriving on their bus from Seattle was awesome. They walked as a group onto the overpass carrying Vietnamese flags and a "Vietnamese-American Community" banner. (We support the United States) One man got my extra flag for his 6 yeaer old son. He told me his son had been photographed when he was two at another patriotic rally. This father takes him to all the rallies and is a very proud American. What a day!

I see that you took Mike Carrell's picture. He is a tireless worker and has been an effective representative for our district. His wife Charlotte was also there. BTW, Carol Cassidy who ran against Jim McDermRAT was also there leading songs. Hope she wins in the futre so we can get that not-burger outta there. Thanks again Eala, I was just going to post a rally report, but had no pictures. Wonderful job!

LOL anyway, here is a photo from today's Tacoma Tribune. Haven't read the article yet, but I was happy to see media there. In fact. a helicopter from King was there too.
