Mexican ID Cards Useful, Pose No Threat

It looks very much like a drivers license, but it doesn't give you license to drive. It allows Mexicans to go in and out of their country, but it's not a passport. It seems like a good idea for the purpose of identifying Mexicans living abroad, but it has created a national drive to make its use illegal. The Mexican government calls it "matricula consular," but critics in the United States call it "the illegal-alien ID card."

Of course, it is not an illegal-alien ID card, but that description plays very well with those fighting to block the use of the Mexican consular identification card. They feel it legitimizes the presence of undocumented immigrants in the United States. What the matricula consular actually does is legitimize the existence of Mexican nationals, regardless of their immigration status in this country. It serves as confirmation that a person exists and that he or she is a Mexican citizen living in the United States, period.

Anti-immigrant groups should spend less time and effort fighting against a harmless little piece of laminated paper, and work to overcome the real threats to our country: terrorism and a slumping economy

BS.

If the Mexican is legally living in the US, then they do not need a Mexican ID, as they will have LEGITIMATE US ID.

The "matricula consular" is an "illegal-alien ID card", because only illegal aliens need it, and that is why the Mexican Government created it.

It's already accepted by many US cities.

In a couple of years, I predict states will start accepting it, if they haven't already.

By the end of the decade, there will be a federal law requiring it's acceptance.

Welcome to the New World Order brought to you by George Clinton, William Jefferson Bush, Bob Gore, and Al Dole.

Some American cities will accept the creditials issused by a foreign gov't, but they won't accept CCW permits issued by US States to US citizens.

Damn, this pisses me off.

Isn't that what a passport does? I don't care if it allows Mexicans to go IN to their country, it's when they go OUT of their country that the matricula card shouldn't help them. Besides the Mexican government doesn't use the matricula card, they already had things like birth certificates and the IFE card they accept. The matricula card was put into place as a way for the Mexican government to take control over our immigration laws. A corrupt foreign government is supposed to decide who can come here.

Many States are enacting laws that forbid it's use.

Arizona passed legislation, in the House, yesterday.

The Federal Government has denied it's use in Federal Government buildings.

IMO, it's dying a slow death, but will not go quietly.

the real threats to our country: terrorism and a slumping economy

Slumping economy? After 20 million illegals came and took jobs at $3.00 an hour or stole Social Security cards to take jobs from Americans? How can that be?

Good. This is one thing I'd love to be wrong about.
