If Nelson (FL) is on board, that might mean 4 Dems are with us. We do not want to invoke cloture to set a precedent for judges in the future, however, if we do get 9 Dems on board with us, Daschle will probably back down, knowing we can get a cloture vote.I don't think Daschle will back down at all. He will WANT to force a cloture vote just so a precedent CAN be set. The repubs might just as well add this as Step #6 on the DEMONrats "Weapons of Mass Obstruction" plan.

I also said that the filibuster would hurt the Democratic party (of course I want it to be hurt, didn't tell her that...)

Frist didn't cave, he didn't have any choice. Mitch McConnell is out, and another Republican senator wife is having life saving surgery. Frist didn't have enough votes to sustain anything without ALL of the Republican senators there.

Sen. Nelson and Graham won't dare support 'filibuster'...not with our conservative Cuban-American population and their Presidential aspirations, but I doubt they'll vote WITH us. We need to phrase our questions differently. "Will you vote yes and be one of the 60 Senate votes Miguel needs to be allowed a confirmation vote on the floor of the Senate?" or something.

From Mark Russel:
Estrada is an immigrant from Honduras and the Democrats go crazy when they find a Latino who is not one of theirs. They have asked immigration authorities to be on the alert for more conservative Republicans trying to sneak over the border.

Please forgive me for trashing this thread with trash from DU...I went over to take a look at your link and gosh, I feel so tainted...what a bunch of filth! (e.g., the "F" word is thrown around over there like candy during a mardi gras). Here's what one patho had to say about President Bush..."The contrast between him and Clinton is sooo stark because Clinton is still fresh in everyone's mind...We in Canada and the rest of the world remember his brilliance and GOOD HEART...Nobody gives a damn about his sex life....If only he was still pres....things would be so different!!!!!!"
I'm at a loss of words to explain where this kind of thinking comes from...can anyone out there help?

Here is a copy of the e-mail I just sent:
Senator Nelson,
As one of your constituents, I would like for you to know how disgusting and disgraceful I find the current attempts to block Miguel Estrada's judicial confirmation. I certainly hope both you and Senator Graham have the class and the common sense not to participate in such activities.
If your conscience does not allow you to vote "yes" for Mr. Estrada, then simply be recorded as a "no" vote. The path Senator Schumer, Senator Leahy and Senator Daschle are taking you and your colleagues on is indeed the path to Hell. I seriously doubt the many Hispanic residents of Florida are supportive of this filibuster, nor is anyone with a sense of common decency and fair play.
Don't allow this destructive behavior to continue. Your constituents deserve better.
Sincerely,
LBelle

Or another question we could ask is "What is Senator Nelson doing to ensure that Estrada gets an up or down vote? Then the staffer will say blah blah blah. Then say "Does Senator Nelson think after 600 days of vetting that Estrada deserves an up or down vote?"

You are right! We have the votes to confirm -- what we need now are votes to invoke cloture! Nelson and Graham I believe can be counted on to allow a vote even when they vote against him.

EVERY ONE, ESP FLORIDA FREEPERS, Sen Bill Nelson's staff this morning said that "he met with Estrada yesterday and is leaning towards supporting him." That means that everyone needs to start calling him now!

Would you fill me in? It's my understanding that all filibusters in recent years were a matter of voicing a lack of votes to break one therefore an actual filibuster never occurred. What is happening with this one? It sounds like there is actually a real live filibuster going on. How'd that happen? How did the republican Senators get the courage to force the dems to have a real one?

Part of the reason they are being forced to filibuster is that a new doctor (Frist) is in town. I think he feels the pressure to deliver for Bush. We have helped with some of the pressure. Plus, Frist might want to be Pres someday himself, so he will try to establish himself as a leader, not an appeaser. So, our job is to keep Frist to the right.

Just finished listening to radio show host Michael Medved let Democratic SS-Trooper
Ann Lewis (Barney Frank's sister) rail against Estrada.
The longer the filibuster goes on the better.
One of the best examples of how Democrats/Liberals "value diversity".
Of everything but thought and morality.

Yeah I had heard that Frist was going to be tough. But, tell me this is there actually an around the clock filibuster going on right now? (I think its great that the dems have been forced into an actual filibuster. There is no way they can stand up to the pressure with a war looming. It will backfire on them.)

I agree the longer it goes on the better. Just imagine those 'useful idiots' shown on the evening news whining about judicial nominations with war and homeland security alerts on the back burner. Americans won't like that.
