In a move that could bolster Latino representation on the nation's largest federal appeals court, President George W. Bush today nominated a Latina state appeals court justice to the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.

Consuelo Maria Callahan, who currently serves on the Sacramento-based Third District Court of Appeal, would become the second Latino judge on the 28-member 9th Circuit if she is confirmed by the U.S. Senate. Bush nominated Callahan to fill one of four vacancies on the San Francisco-based appeals court, which interprets law for California and eight other western states.

In addition to that, few days ago President Bush has also nominated another hispanc: judge Edward C. Prado to the newest vaccancy on the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals. Prado is District Court Judge in Western District of Texas nominated to that post by Reagan in 1984.

This nomination has gone somewhat unnoticed on this forum and it also happend after Estrada confirmation started on the Senate floor.

Her last name is Callahan, the dem's will say she is Irish, not latino

Yeah, but her first and middle name are both hispanic--what are they going to do, only mention her by last name when debating over her? Maybe they can call her Constance Marie Callahan--no hint of latino in that name now!

Especially when Orrin Hatch reminds the public that the 9th is the court that declared the Pledge of Allegiance unconstitutional, and points out that the Rats are willing to be branded as racists by the Republicans to preserve that kind of ideological purity.

Yep!

LIFE'S GOOD!!!

9th Circuit Court - it has the teeth of the Hague, the insight of Phil Donahue, and the judgment of the OJ Simpson jury.

Is this THE 9th Circuit Court of Appeals? The one that tried to declare that reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in public schools was unconstitutional?

Wow, go Dubya!
