Nope, it's pretty much as it appears to be. It isn't "scripted" as such, but Evan does have things to say suggested to him, and there are lots of retakes. And the editing is pure Survivor stuff, done so you really don't know WHAT'S up. The show's producers may or may NOT have done much background checking on the contestants, but any time you take 20 gals off the street, you're bound to get some with some eyebrow-raising things in their pasts.
As for Evan himself, yeah, his last name IS Marriott, but his family appears not to be closely, if at all, related to the hotel chain people. He's done a little underwear modeling (yawn) and he never did work fulltime in the construction biz...but the gay wrestling thing is a figment.
And if Evan's been seen in public without either girl on his arm, well, that's GOOD since it's in his contract that he can't be seen with nor talk about either girl until the series finale airs.
Lemme guess - you think we faked the moon landings, too, right?
Michael
The network went out looking for 'entertaining' people and got them. (probably actress/model/whatevers that the producers knew!)
Years ago, I applied for a summer job at one of their Ozark "resorts". I am not kidding when I say that the bulk of my interview was trying to assess my feelings about being passed over for promotions if another employee, possibly with less seniority, was black. They actually stated that a supervisor's slot might be given to a new hire IF s/he was a racial minority and they needed one for diversity at a particular hotel. There were several big framed documents on the wall of awards they'd received for their AA program from various black organizations-I remember one from Ebony magazine that stated Marriot was on their Top 50 list.
I was so stunned that I just feigned agreeability , to get the **** out of the interviewing room. Next day, the call back was on the answering machine. I just erased it. Never went back.
I will never, ever set foot in a marriot for ANY reason.
