Clinton: ‘I like having my life back’

alt

Former president talks about what he did on his last day in office and the impending war with Iraq

THE TODAY SHOW
Feb. 11 —  In our special series leading up to President’s Day, “Today” host Katie Couric has a candid conversation with former president William Jefferson Clinton — a president who elicits strong emotions and remains one of the most controversial presidents in and out of the White House.

WILLIAM JEFFERSON CLINTON, 42nd president of the United States, and the first two-term democratic president elected in the last six decades. At 56, Bill Clinton is the youngest ex-president since Theodore Roosevelt.
Former President Bill Clinton: “You know, I never landed on the back lawn of the White House. And walked in that back door, that I didn’t feel a thrill. Every single day and I felt more idealistic about my country on the day I left office than the day I came in. That’s what I did the last day.”
Katie Couric: “When it comes to adjusting the so-called regular life, what’s the biggest bummer? Flying commercial?”
Former President Bill Clinton: “No. Actually, believe it or not, I like it. I like flying commercial. I mostly fly when I go overseas commercial, or when I take the shuttle back from Washington to New York. Because I try to go down and check on Hillary once a week, and just kind of be around. But I get to see people. I loved living in the White House. But I never thought I could do that for life. The thing I miss most — is the work and the people that I worked with and saw. But I actually like this part of my life — I like having my life back.”
Couric: “In this month’s edition of The Atlantic Monthly, James Fallows writes, ‘Clinton had the worst beginning of an ex-Presidency since Richard Nixon flew to San Clemente in 1974.’ Certainly you did ignite a firestorm of criticism, with your pardon of Mark Rich. Had you the opportunity to do it over again, would you have pardoned him?”
Former President Bill Clinton: “No. I would have waited and let President Bush do it. Because Vice President Cheney’s a — chief of staff was his main lawyer. And there would have been no media firestorm, and he wouldn’t be being investigated. That only happened to us. There’s a double standard there. It’s been two years now, and the Justice Department has not charged him.

.....................

It’s a long way from Hope, Arkansas where William Jefferson Clinton was born. Young Bill knew from an early age politics was his destiny. As a participant in boy’s nation, this well-known photo from 1963 shows him meeting his idol, president john f. Kennedy.

Katie Courric in a "candid" conversation....Katie has never had a "candid" consversation with a democrat in her life...."CANDID"...did she ask about Juanita? Did she ask about where is criminal wife hid those billing records for two years? Did she ask about his lying before a grand jury? Did she ask about missile technology to China for campaign money? Did she ask why he pardoned the biggest tax evader in US history (Marc Rich)?

I loved living in the White House. But I never thought I could do that for life.

He went on to say: "I had Hillary look into changing the Constitution or staging a military coup, but she told me that neither plan would work. But I did consider my options, let me tell you!"

"I try to go down and check on Hillary once a week"

Bill always struck me as the jealous type.

He wants to make sure Hillary isn't taking any of his girlfriends from him.

You have to ask yourself why he's all over TV lately; he's been everywhere. I wonder what's going on.

He is ugly, and I don't believe, and never have believed, any of those stories about women falling all over him.

Raping women? Yes, that is more his M.O.

Chicks using him for cash and movie parts? Yes, I can see that. Explains his time in Hollywood and his bragging about Harvey Weinstein.

But as for women actually wanting him? No way. Never bought, never will.

As I said last week, he's WAY overdue for a scandal; in his entire career he's never been this long without one.

And he's always delivered.

I like not having to look at his dissipated face every day. Volunteer as a human shield, Bill. Saddam needs you.

Wow, The Rapist actually took a break from molesting/groping/staining to conduct an interview?

No surprises here that he tried to point the finger at Cheney/Bush re: the Mark Rich pardon.

Just when you think he cannot possibly get any lower, he proves us wrong, right?

I would have waited and let President Bush do it.

Insinuating that Bush WOULD have done it -- and also trying to imply that Rich DESERVED a pardon, thus getting Clinton off the hook. You know, Rich was going to get a pardon anyway, just Clinton's bad luck that it came on his watch!

Because Vice President Cheney’s a — chief of staff was his main lawyer.

Actually, Jack Quinn was his MAIN lawyer -- a Clinton buttboy if there ever was one.

And there would have been no media firestorm

Well, he's right about that, isn't he? There would have been no firestorm because there would have been no pardon.

and he wouldn’t be being investigated.

What the HELL is he talking about? Nobody's investigating Marc Rich; they're investigating Bill Clinton's pardon of Marc Rich.

That only happened to us.

Because you pardoned a INDICTED CRIMINAL who was on the run, you idiot! (He STILL doesn't understand how bad it was if his OWN friends in the press raked him over the coals!)

There’s a double standard there.

Again, implying that Bush and Cheney are "just as crooked" as he is. Isn't everybody? :-)

It’s been two years now, and the Justice Department has not charged him.

I have absolutely NO idea what he's talking about here. Does he expect Marc Rich to be charged with BRIBING a sitting president for a pardon? Wouldn't the person who is to be charged be HIM???????

I tell you, I just should NOT be this upset this early in the day.....LOL.

Me: "No, everybody YOU know does it."
