LOS ANGELES(AP) - Phil Spector will contend the shooting death of an actress at his suburban mansion last week was accidental, a close friend of the legendary music producer said.

"I believe his defense will be that this was a tragic accident," said Marvin Mitchelson, a prominent Los Angeles attorney who has been friends with Spector for about 12 years and has traveled extensively with him.

Prediction: The subsequent replies on this thread will go on and on about "suuure, it was accidental." Some may convey the theme of "hang the SOB," and other versions of "he's guilty."

All of them based on nothing but pure emotion and imagination.

The guy may be guilty, for all I know. He also may not be.

Of course, maybe this post will itself preempt such knee-jerk goofiness.

In the aftermath of Clarkson's death, stories circulated about Spector's past history of carrying a gun and sometimes waving it around in recording studios.

May Eddie Eagle tear out this idiot's liver.

Wasn't there an NBA basketball player recently who "accidently" shot a guest at his mansion?

One thing is certain, however: Phil Spector will never go to prison, not for even one day, because of:
1) Celebrity status
2) Johnny Cochrane
3) Insanity defense. Everyone knows he has been loopy for years.
Is he really guilty? I dunno, I wasn't there...

I used to know this guy.

He reached out and grabbed a loaded (cocked) .45 auto being held by a freind.
The freind's finger was on the trigger, and the gun went off.
Guy #1 was shot. Through the heart.

As God sometimes deigns to protect idiots from harm, he somehow survived, due to some excellent surgeons and probably more than one miracle.

If #1 had died instead, #2 would have most probably gone to prison at the least, for manslaughter, the most, life for 2nd degree murder.
It was only upon the recovery of #1 that the circumstances of the shooting were confirmed.
Until then, #2 was in the pokey on charges of (attempted ) murder, pending the survival or death of #1.

Too bad Spectre's victim didn't survive.
We'll never know (for sure) what happened, and why.
